That's the hardest thing, maniego, especially for guys like you are used to seeing modern ships like that of the US Navy. It's really sad to say that no matter how we all want the Navy to junk these old ships and get prettier ships, our budget just can't allow us yet. With that, at least we should give our cash-strapped Philippine Navy... a pat on the back for this humble undertaking. :thumb: |

Don't get me wrong Flipzi, we do have old ships around where I work at and had served onboard(like 30 years plus), but of course not as old as the one's being mentioned. I will never forget the nightmares of maintenance work we all had to put in just to keep the equipment we had onboard running. This I am basing out of experience which is why I can only feel for our PN Sailors. The point I was making is that the older the ship, the more maintenance you have to put up with. This is why you can only afford to keep such assets on active service. Believe you me, I am hats off to our PN Sailors for putting up such an effort. The thing I would rather see (and this is just me) is I would rather see such equipment installed for a start on our much newer ones instead (and if possible). Please don't forget that it also hurts me whenever I hear or read negative reviews about the PN too. That's all. |

That should be the Navy's long-term goal. They must start doing it now though and not wait too long to get it started. Else, we may end up just refurbishing WW2-era ships and forgetting the fact that .... IT IS CHEAPER TO MAINTAIN NEWER SHIPS. |

The BRP Quezon is a minesweeping frigate? We have no mines to sweep but we have terrorists to kill!

I know that you knew that idea well enough. It is just that we need to make our own sailors here feel that we too are seeing the effort that they have undertaken just to keep the Navy afloat, despite the financial limitations , ... ... to somewhat inspire them to do more. Not a bad idea, right?

Right you are :thumb: I always used to get a kick out of the stories our PN Sailors used to tell me when I was still stationed in the States. I would meet a variety of our AFP personnel going through the various schools being offered. Some are worth commending and some enough to piss anyone off. Still, I respect what they had to do even if it would have been considered as a safety hazard to the standards I am used to working with. Still, it was quite a trip to hear these sea stories from them

Does anyone have details about what aspects of the ship were actually refurbished? |

maniegom, This is quite off-topic. But what the hell? Just say it when you feel like it. You know what? Only a few Filipinos who have worked for the USN or even those who are still with the Navy possessed the same sense of nationalism like you. Do you feel the same sense of peace within and the pride that you can show to the rest that money cant buy your love for your homeland? :thumb: :thumb: |
