alongst withwhat DEf-SEc said the 78 foot patrol boats (most likely halters the same or with modifications, most likely built under license in cebu like most of the current halter fleet) 11-meter fast boats which is most likely fast amphibious landing ships larger than RHIBS. and 2 landing ships. here are others the PN has been able to purchase with the PN's little funding and government support since the AFP is focusing on more the PAF and ground forces. this is what the PN got in the last year or 2: some note even with limited funds the PN has been able to get these projects within the past 1 or 2 years. *1 Cyclone FAC/amphibious ship *radar stations around the archaepeligo, especially sea lanes and vital choke points. *purchase of 2 more south korean Patrol Killer Medium or Sea Killer (SK-Dolphin) which bring the PKM fleet to 8 units. *refurbish the PKM fleet *new stabilized mounts for the main guns on the Halter Class patrol boats. *refurbishment of all 3 jacinto class corvettes and weapons upgrade. 2 jacintos have been in dock and only 1 operational, these refurbishements will repair them and a weapons upgrade of a new surface-search radar and new fire control systems as well as a new 25mm gun. *commisioning of 1 more new LCUs. total of 7 new LCUs now in fleet. *1 or 2 USCG cutters (point class cutter) developing and in negotiations include: *4 CB-90 amphibious boats from sweden. this is most likely to pass. funding is from the PN and from malampaya since 1 of the CB-980s is permenantly to protect malampaya. all that is needed now are the final testing phases, once this passes, 1 will be ready for delivery and the others later. *2 Singaporean Endurance class LST/LPD/LSD. the PN has saved up funds to refurbish more mothballed WWII-class LSTs and to buy frank besson LSV, or to lease or purchase the 2 Newport Class. but again the PMC chose the Endurance Class against other options. the philippines as well as the US which is going to provide funds for this sale are already in the negotiating phase for 2 of these. *Transfer of more USCG ships. some of the PN wishlists include High and Medium Endurance Cutters. as well as more Point Class cutters and some of the Cyclones. the US paid for the last cyclone so this time the PN needs to pay for it itself since other nations has expressed interst for it and these countries (Sri Lanka, Egypt, Colomnia are some that are interested in buying them) are willing to pay for these ships and not rely on them as aid. |

Actually the US is negotiating with the singaporeans alongside the Philippine government for the purchase of these. they will provide funding to aquire them. the philippines has been eyeing the soon-to-be-retired USCG High Endurance Cutters (Hamilton class). the USCG has already been building a new replacement to enter service in 2007. Hamilton can be a frigate by arming it with Harpoon, towed array radar, and torpedoe tubes, which it was already armeed with originally or an OPV with the armament it already has now. replace WWII-40's class frigate with a newer 70s (first ship built in 1967) frigate? better than nothing, these were refurbished and upgraded recently and is fitted with digirtal and fly-by-wire controls for better integration, as well as helicopter facilities. also medium endurance cutters and cyclones as well as more point class are in negotiations. the thing is that the PN is pressing these to be included in US aid while the US also has other customers waiting for them and those customers are willing to pay. the colombians and greeks are already to receive 1 each a medium endurance cutter. |

Are there immediate plans arming those Jacinto Class with Harpoons or Exocets, or those Dolphins with Gabriels? This could go a long way in getting respect from our arogant neighbors. |

Thats's why we should act now. SEE HOW THE SINGAPOREANS ARE MOCKING US? Imagine if another scenario similar to that of Scarborough shoul happens again, ........under the guardianship of a shortsighted and weak president? Since, we can't even get a tiny piece of country like that of Singapore to give "some" respect to our military strength, how much more for Indonesia or Vietnam? Our Scout Rangers and Marines can't use their skills in such battle. Several pair of GBUs can wipe out the core of FSRR and Marines when our arrogant neighbors decide to wrestle with us using their hich-tech weaponries. What's wrong with our military planners and lawmakers? Too busy for nothing but planning how they can get their own share of the loot? P.I. naman talaga.

China put up structures on the Scarborough shoal sometime during the stint as president of Gen. Fidel V. Ramos. That shoal was being claimed by the Philippines also. Gen. Ramos, instead of stopping the Chinese bowed down to their bullying lest this will drag the country into a full blown war with China. Instead of stopping China's effort to dominate that cluster of islets, reefs and shoals he just allowed China to accomplish that objective by hiding his tail behind his legs. He could have averted that had he pushed for the modernization of the AFP much earlier or blasted the structures right before these were developed into a much larger structure that is now even housing satelite communications equipment. That structure may even be used for intel gathering, dont you think? Sooner or later, when the right opportune time comes for China, it will again employ its "talk and take" strategy untill all other occupants of the Spratly's are kicked out. He's been doing that to Taiwan and he has done that to the Philippines, what other reasons will deter China to repeat that bullying strategy again? |

Maybe we should beach one of our old frigates, with 76 mm and 40 mm guns and all, on Scarborough shoal. We can build our own structures, even a helipad beside it. Then we'll have a permanent presence in the area, along side the Chinese.
