Jolo Crisis 2000 by journeymanpictures

Jolo, Philippines
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1kcjqNO6DA

It's worth watching, and you get to see some exclusive videos of actual combat w/ some interesting sights of rebels having a military training very similar to what we've seen in terrrorrist training in afghanistan and iraq. Some sights of patrolling soldiers such as one w/ a high-powered rifle and big scope on it, probably a sniper, and many more.

The bottom line here is, there's something that we can definitely learn from our past mistakes...

The reporter didnt understand fully the case in Mindanao. He did not understand fully the root causes and the other aspects of the war in Mindanao.

The Moslem people especially the rebel leaders are not innocent here. They too were the reasons why most of Mindanao remain poor. Compare the areas where Moslem Mayors and Governors are ruling. These are impoverished. There are a lot of the Moslem elites who are capitalizing on the ignorance of the Moslem people just to use them for their greed.

Compare the areas in Mindanao that are ruled by non-Moslems. These are all progressive. The cities of Davao, Cagayan De Oro, Butuan, Zamboanga, Surigao, General Santos are all progressive and both the Moslems and Christian thrive there in peace and share the bounty.

NOW LOOK AT THE PLACES WHERE MOSLEMS RULE.

They say they need a Moslem leader so that their wellbeing can be ensured?

WELL, THEY ARE WRONG.

They do not realize that the Moslem elites are not their saviors and angels from God Almighty.

Look the Ampatuans, the Dimaporos and the rest of the Moslem elites. They have houses as big as the Arab royals when they got into power.

BUT ARE THEY DOING AS GREAT AS WELL IN SERVING THE PEOPLE?

They now have houses comparable to the palaces of rich Arab nations. BUT LOOK AT THE POOR MOSLEMS LIVING AROUND THEM.

Now they say they want more power?

For what?

LIVE MORE OF THE LIFE OF THE ARAB KINGS... at the expense of the impoverished Moslem majority?

Sadly, most of our Moslem brothers do not realize these.

The muslim population are being discriminated and not being prioritized by the government for the last 58 yrs. Don't be surprised if they are still undeveloped.

The reporter also said that the rebels have claimed more or less 800 dead government troops were killed, while our goverment said 200. That's still a lot of dead bodies.

Discriminated?

I dont think so.

In fact it was the Moslem people themselves and their actions that HINDERED THEIR OWN GROWTH.

How can investors invest heavily in Sulu, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi when all they do is keep the armed struggle flaming?

A lot of tourists want to visit Tawi-Tawi for its diving spots. But who in their right minds would dare visit these islands when they know that kidnappers and extremists thrive?

Look at Davao and Cagayan de Oro. Moslems and Christians alike enjoy the bounty together.

Sulu is governed by a Moslem leader. As well as Basilan and Tawi-Tawi. These lands are rich in natural resources. But why are these areas imporverished despite their potential? The national government?

Or the Moslems themselves, especially their leaders?

Yup i agree with you when it comes to "hindering themselves" towards progress, but they have also been discriminated and persecuted for more than 400 yrs, and u should know that. From workplace to owning a house.

Read this:
Quote:

The Muslim problem in the Philippines articulates substantially how the dominance and superiority of the Christianized majority could be rationalized as presented earlier. There is no equivocation on this as the roots of the conflict situation explain how the coutnry was anointed to inherit the colonial cultures, perpetuating its perception and attitudes towards the centuries-old adversary of its Spanish master from thereon. It is thus irony to claim the Organic Act on Muslim Mindanao and the 1996 Peace Agreement as solutions whereby they simply disguise or rationalize a state of colonial relations. Both the constitutional provision on autonomy and the mechanics of implementation incorporated in the 1996 Peace Agreement are mere overlay of the national bureaucracy. What seems to be the “autonomous” feature of this agreement is that Muslims are employed in key positions as well as the rank and file of agencies of the government. But even the manpower requirements of the ARMM are not 100% recruited from the Muslim population; non-Muslim (Christians) are given the privilege to occupy high-level positions as is the case of the Special Zone of Peace and Development (SZOPAD) which is equally composed of non-Muslims in its highest policy-making body. The supposed “special” status of the autonomous regional government is illusory, considering that major bureaucratic functions are already devolved to local government units throughout the country.

They became low priorities by our government for developments. Their acts of violence and revenge against foreign investments are their sole religious belief against foreigners who are stepping on their lands. A belief that for us is too hard to comprehend and even some muslims are against too. But the cruelty and neglegence of our military operations specially durig the 2000 campaign was so unbearable that even muslim civilians were obviously been targeted and bombed. As what we can see from the video were their villages has been destroyed.

So you think its not discrimination?

The bangsamoro has also been asking for their own independent state for years, but theyve only been granted some autonomous muslim mindanao during the 70's. Discriminations continued, and so the war continued.

Then lately they were asking for a federal state, but until now, the government is too slow in granting them their wish even if that doesn't mean they'll be a separated nation fom us.

For me, all this should be done as soon as we go federalism. But as long as we dont grant them their own independent federal state, the war will continue.

We're OT na so ill start a new thread.
