Cebu City (10 December) -- After its nine years of existence, the Tactical Operations (TOC), the Philippine Air Force (PAF) lead unit in Central, Western and Southern Philippines under its present Commander, Brigadier General Nicomedes B Corpuz Jr, AFP will be deactivated in simple rites on December 11, 2007 at the Grandstand, Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base, LapuLapu City.

The Command will again be reactivated as its predecessor, the 2nd Air Division by virtue of General Orders NR 307, Headquarters, Philippine Air Force dated August 31, 2007. The Commanding General, Philippine Air Force, Lieutenant General Horacio S Tolentino, AFP, will preside over this memorable ceremony.

The 2nd Tactical Operations Wing will also be deactivated and will be revived as its predecessor, the 560th Air Base Wing.

To be more effective and potent force in the implementation of National Policy in its Internal Security efforts, it is imperative that the PAF be reorganized.

Consequently, the area of operations of the 2nd Air Division will be concentrated on the Central Visayas to effectively support the needs of the Central Command, which oversees all military and non-military operations in the same area.

With this development, the PAF will be better able to provide Air Operations in the area, this, however, does not limit the role of the 2nd Air Division to solely military operations. The division is also mandated to support other activities that require air assets and personnel such as disaster relief operations, search and rescue and civil military operations and other activities in support to local government efforts in the area.
