i still do remember that suggestion of yours, Sir Marschall. ![]() if only the Philippines has the funds and has less worries about insurgents and Muslim extremists, i really would like to see the Army operate maybe 100+ Leopard 1A5 MBTs plus other Leopard 1-based vehicles (bridgelayers, AEVs, ARVs, minesweepers). those surplus Dutch (before the Leopard 1Vs were bought by the Chileans and the Greeks) and German (i do not have any idea how many Leopard 1A5s and 1A6s are left in Heer's inventory) Leopard 1s could have been a good buy for the Philippines but, sadly, things were not working in favor of the AFP and the Philippine government... even now. if ever the Philippine Army is interested in operating Leopard 1s, it should take a look not only of German stockpiles but also on Australian Leopard AS1s (upgraded Leopard 1A3s; replaced by M1A1 Abrams) and Chilean Leopard 1Vs (100 or so of these to be replaced by ex-German Leopard 2A4s) that are to be retired from service soon. |
