flashed on ANC , the gunship was reportedly shot down while providing support to marines in ongoing battle in basilan, the pilot was killed and co-pilot wounded.

if this is the case, the abus do have shoulder-fired missiles?

PAF says mechanical trouble caused crash of the MG520..

but according to other reports, the helo was trailing smoke as it left the area of battle.

probably HMG or RPG if ever it was enemy fire that damaged it.

JI allegedly has SA7s. They were shown in videos JI released and were aired on news TV. However, it is not known whether these vids were shot in a camp on the Philippines or elsewhere in SEA or if these SA7s are working models.

SA7s are Russian equivalents of the old US Redeye SAM. It's not an all aspect ratio missile. Much like the Redeye, the seeker eye can only target the engine's hot exhaust.

While it is not as effective as current-gen MANPADS like Stingers, Javelins or SA14s, they are relatively cheap and easily available on the black market.

Very unlikely this was MANPADS. If it was, the MG520 would've turned into a fireball in mid-air. MG fire, or even lucky rifle fire, could've done it. The surviving co-pilot would shed light on this.

wala pa akong narinig na balita tungkol diyan. If there's any, engine trouble ang cause nung chopper, pagod na rin ang mga Defender kaya kailangan na ng reliever niyan, I think it's a wake up call for our politikos na bawasan na yung pork nila :armyfrown:

According to radio reports here in Mindanao, the helo was hit by machine gun fire while on a strafing run, my tama pa nga yung pilot.

Malas lang talaga :headbang:
