the MD520N [notar] will be very excellent in the recon and light attack role for PAF or Army aviation, its superquiet bec of the lack of tail rotor the enemy wont notice the helo until its on top of their heads

if it's more quiet and can carry the same deadly weapon load, THEN THESE ARE GOOD FOR SPEC OPS as well.

Rescued MD Helicopters rebuilds its supply chain
MD Helicopters (MDHI) continues its return from the brink with a series of agreements to re-establish and restructure its supply chain. Most significantly, fuselages for MD 500/600-series light turbine singles are to be produced in Monterrey, Mexico by Global Automotive Systems (GAS), a company controlled by MDHI’s new owner, New York investment firm Patriarch Partners.

The fuselages were previously produced by Kaman Aerospace, which has agreed to restart production of rotor systems for MDHI’s MD Explorer light twin. GAS will begin production in the second quarter, completing the first fuselage in the fourth quarter.

To support MDHI, Patriarch has also acquired a controlling interest in Grand Prairie, Texas-based helicopter completion and modification specialist Heritage Aviation.

MDHI, meanwhile, has announced long-term supplier agreements with Pratt & Whitney Canada, for the PW207E engine powering the MD Explorer, and Rolls-Royce, for the Model 250 powering the turbine singles.

Deals have also been struck with the Triumph Group to supply transmissions for the MD 500/600-series and components for both single- and twin-engined helicopters, and with Kamatics to provide driveshaft bearings for the helicopters.

DESCRIPTION:
When the US Army put forth a requirement for 4,000 new helicopters to fulfill a variety of support and combat duties, a number of helicopter and airplane manufacturers submitted bids for designs. Ultimately, Bell and Hiller were selected to build prototypes to compete in the Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) program. In a controversial move, the newly-formed Hughes Helicopter was also permitted to participate. Though the Hiller design was generally considered to be the best of the three entrants, the industry was stunned when Hughes was announced the winner of such a massive contract. In its favor, the Hughes 369 was a remarkably small and agile design, but the project was so fraught with cost overruns and engineering difficulties that the Army cancelled production after only some 1,400 of the projected 4,000 had been built. The type did prove valuable in Vietnam but was soon relegated to second-line units after the Army awarded a new LOH contract to the Bell OH-58.
Despite these difficulties, Hughes proceeded to develop a civil version, the MD 500, that has become one of the most popular civil helicopters in history. The latest versions include the 520N/600N which use a NOTAR (No TAil Rotor) system. Instead of using a traditional tail rotor to counteract torque, NOTAR employs an air jet at the end of the tail boom. More advanced military versions based on the civil variants have also been developed, namely the 500MG and 530MG Defender series.

In addition to the US Army and other militaries, major users of the MD 500 include police departments and border patrol agencies. Including all variants, over 4,000 MD 500 helicopters have been built including about 100 NOTAR models.

Data below for OH-6A, 500E, 500M, 500MD, 500MG, 520N, 530N, 530MG, and 600N where noted

at least, this article proves that we can do something about our fleet of MD520MG Defenders and that there is no need for us to buy old, high-end helicopters such as AH-1F Cobras. :thumb:

Israel was the most noted user of the Defenders series in which they been notable improve the engine, avionic and sensors together with the weapon payload.

What the MDHI was trying to revive and sell to the US army right now is there NOTAR helicopter or the MD Explorer in which only found a market for civilian purpose. they are now offering with new package of the MD Explorer. US army is now searching for a unit of light weight gun ship.

The Israelis did have MG Gunships but when push came to shove note that they sold those and kept the Cobras. Not only did they keep the Cobras but they are modernizing them despite receiving new AH-64s. That should mean something.

A nice view of the Israel Hughes Helicopter. It enters in service in 70's and until now.

A hint on how the MD 500 could be fitted with FLIR and new weapon system. But on the sites MD500 of IAF has more powerful engine to allow to carry up to 8 TOW.

How about this one guys NOTAR Seies of the MD 500
