If you are referring to former president Ramos as the cause of all these then you are wrong sirs, it was Pres. Ramos during his time who uplifted the economy of our country only to be destroyed by Erap. |

As i see it, Ramos just got lucky because the world economy then was good. He failed to modernize the AFP. We even lost a vital part of the Spratly's. He failed to SET THE GROUNDS to sustain the economic momentum and failed to address housing and unemployment problems. RP's economic status prior to Erap's stint a result of his genius? I dont think so. He just got lucky the world economy was doing well that time ... ... and that's why. If only he got smarter we could have sustained the pace and even defended Scarborough effectively. Erap was even a better Commander-in-Chief, a non-military guy, than Ramos because he was able to crush the MILF's boastfulness. I believe he might have saved Scarborough as well if only he just came in earlier. Cory was a better leader than Ramos too because just like Erap, a non-military lady, she was able to modernize the AFP then. Those Patrol crafts, OV-10s, MD520s, S211s and Simba's were delivered during her administration. That happened when the economy was NOT DOING WELL ENOUGH compared to Ramos' time. Controversies even rocked the Ramos' administration. The PEA-Amari deal and Centennial expose are two of which. You see now? That's just my observation though. Please correct me further.

Consider the following: -Cory had a restive military that attempted to bring down her government several times. FVR prevented that during her time and negated it during his term. It was also during Cory't time that a new constitution was made that has since sealed the fate of all Filipinos. - FVR brought in from the fold the MNLF, RAM and talks with the CPP-NPA-NDF shifted to high gear. There was political stability then. - FVR inherited an AFP that had lost it's supply line from the US following the dismantling of US bases during Cory's time. Note that Cory availed of those benefits which were not available to FVR anymore. It was also during the time of Cory that the AFP lost the chance for the Pakistani F-16s. The PAF procured, contrary to everybody's recommendation, the S211. Of course, some people made money there. Comparison should be made in the proper perspective. Bottom line, do not compare apples, oranges and rambutans. |

I'll take that as an added perspective, Sir. Well, I guess i was forced to take my hint on those rambutans because there's noone selling apples or oranges then. It's good to know that we now have a lot of generous vendors here.

to Friendster fanatics out there: wanna add him in your friends list? ![]() Alleged mutiny leader goes online to make 'friends' By Joel Guinto INQ7.net Last updated 09:27pm (Mla time) 12/15/2006 (UPDATE) HE is a "gentleman and romantic" who likes watching the Hollywood movies "Jerry Maguire" and "Master and Commander," and listening to Filipino pop band Side A and 80s singer Mike Francis. Call him "Sonny" for short, and he wants to meet "anyone" online. This was how Navy Lieutenant Senior Grade Antonio Trillanes IV, rebel soldier-turned Senate hopeful described himself in his profile on the social networking website Friendster. Trillanes activated his Friendster account several days ago, before he registered as a voter in Caloocan City last Sunday, when he announced plans to run for the Senate in next year's mid-term elections. As of Friday, Trillanes had 24 "friends" on his Friendster network. A source close to the alleged mutiny ringleader said Trillanes' "campaign people" maintain the Friendster account with his approval. "He wants to touch base with the Internet crowd, so that they can get to know him and so that he can get his message across," the source said. "The Internet is something new to him. He learned about Friendster while in detention," the source added. On his Friendster blog or online journal, Trillanes posted the full text of his article "The Greenbase Expose," which detailed the military's alleged involvement in the string of bombings in Mindanao in early 2003. This, and alleged corruption in government are the main grievances of the Magdalo, a 300-strong band of junior officers and enlisted men who seized the Oakwood luxury apartments in the financial district of Makati on July 27, 2003. Trillanes shot to fame as spokesman of the rebel group during the day-long siege. While several of his comrades have reaffirmed allegiance to the government, he has remained defiant. In his Friendster profile, Trillanes wrote "Magdalo" as his affiliation and "AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines] officer" as his occupation. Trillanes posted a close-up shot of himself, smiling, with the Philippine flag behind him, as his main photo, accompanied by three pictures of his registration last Sunday, which showed him posing with and waving to supporters. The Navy officer also gamely answered several scrapbook questions. He said his favorite authors are Robert Ludlum and Frederick Forsyth. Trillanes, who is detained at the Philippine Marine Custodial Center in Fort Bonifacio, said his hobbies include "malling with my family" and playing tennis, badminton and basketball. He is facing coup d'etat charges before the Makati regional trial court and for violation of Article of War 96 (conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman) before a general court martial. |

AFP now sees Trillanes as an ‘ally’ By Joel Guinto INQUIRER.net Last updated 08:59pm (Mla time) 06/12/2007 MANILA, Philippines -- With former Navy officer Antonio Trillanes IV all but assured of a Senate seat, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) now sees an “ally” in him and will “respect” his proclamation as senator, a military spokesman said Tuesday. At the same time, AFP public information officer Lieutenant Colonel Bartolome Bacarro maintained that a survey on troop sentiment over Trillanes' victory in the May 14 mid-term elections does not mean that the military was threatened by the detained ex-Navy lieutenant. "As a former officer, he [Trillanes] can be an ally in the Senate. That's possible. That's very, very possible," Bacarro told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo. "We are not threatened. There is nothing to fear. There is nothing to be worried [about]." Asked if the military leadership was acknowledging Trillanes' win, Bacarro said: "The AFP will respect that mandate." Since Wednesday last week, the AFP's Civil Relations Service (CRS) has been polling soldiers on how they felt about Trillanes' victory and whether or not it was a "protest vote" against the government and the military leadership. Bacarro reiterated that there was no political color to the CRS poll, which he described as a "management tool." If troops have negative reactions to a Trillanes victory, the military would explain to them that he received his mandate from the people, Bacarro said. Trillanes and several other junior officers are charged before a civil and military court for leading some 300 troops in the July 2003 occupation of the Oakwood luxury apartments in Makati City to protest alleged corruption in government. |

The AFP should know that Trillanes's victory is totally degrading and embarassment to them. In a logical sense, it made them look stupid after Esperon issued a warning to all EPs to vote for all the administration's candidates. It is a referendum on how the people feel about the 2004 GMA legitimacy issue, and the persecution and detention of AFP whislte-blowers who were ordered and witnessed the celebrated election fraud that re-instated and renewed the highly questionable regime. |

(UPDATE) Trillanes is 11th senator-elect To be proclaimed Friday By Erwin Oliva INQUIRER.net, Agence France-Presse Last updated 01:21pm (Mla time) 06/14/2007 MANILA, Philippines -- Detained opposition candidate Antonio Trillanes IV is the 11th senator-elect and is set to be proclaimed Friday, Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Benjamin Abalos said Thursday. The decision to proclaim Trillanes was made by the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, after finishing the canvass of votes from Surigao del Norte. Reynaldo Robles, Trillanes’ lawyer, said he will ask a local court to allow his client to leave detention to attend the proclamation. Trillanes is being tried before civil and military courts for his role in a failed military mutiny in 2003. Only one other Senate seat, the 12th, is still being contested. Currently holding the slot is opposition candidate Aquilino Pimentel III, who is followed by administration candidate Juan Miguel Zubiri. Ten new senators were proclaimed last week following the May 14 mid-term polls, which were marred by violence and allegations of fraud and vote rigging. The proclamation of the 11th and 12th slots in the 12 seats contested were delayed after a million votes remained uncounted for in the troubled southern island of Mindanao. Abalos told reporters Thursday that it was "statistically improbable" for the remaining votes to affect the final tally for Trillanes. Trillanes, who had no platform other than to seek President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's removal, now cements the opposition's majority control in the 24-seat Senate. When the new congress sits, the Senate will only have 23 seats with one left vacant following the election of Senator Alfredo Lim as mayor of Manila. Trillanes, whose vote was seen more as a protest against the president, has said that if elected he would seek to have Arroyo impeached for corruption. Ex-Army colonel Gregorio Honasan, alleged to have provided tactical guidance for the mutineers and who is also being tried for this, was among the senators proclaimed last week. The Makati regional trial court on Thursday deferred his arraignment while awaiting a decision on an appeal filed before the justice department. Arroyo allies retain control of the 275-seat House of Representatives and most of the country's provincial posts following the May elections. More than 130 people were killed nationwide during the three-month election campaign. |
