http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/03/05/12...vs-pnoy-ongoing MANILA, Philippines - Some retired military officers allied with former government officials are allegedly recruiting active soldiers to join a plot to unseat President Benigno Aquino III, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV said on Monday. Trillanes, a former soldier who led coup attempts against former President Gloria Arroyo, told reporters in a phone interview that he got the information from Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officers who are being recruited. He did not identify them. Asked to identify the people behind the plot, Trillanes said, "Ito iyung mga natanggal sa poder ng kapangyarihan na gustong bumalik." The senator said the recruiters are trying to muster support by employing "red scare" tactics such as floating the idea that there are communists in government. He also said no one has been recruited so far, according to information reaching him. "Hindi naman kinakagat," Trillanes said. He is also confident that any coup attempt against President Aquino will not succeed because of his popularity and the perception that his government is clean. Still, Trillanes called on the administration to activate its counter-intelligence unit to thwart any coup plot. He also suggested that the government launch an information campaign to let soldiers know the legitimate venues to air their grievances, if there are any. President Aquino himself bared a plot to oust him in a speech before the Presidential Security Group last week. Sen. Gregorio Honasan, another former soldier who staged several coups against former President Corazon Aquino, also believes any coup attempt against the present administration are for naught. "Wala akong nakikitang seryosong isyu na mag-uudyok nito," he said. "Maaaring may mga komentaryo being ventilated in little social gatherings, but not in the magnitude that precipitated in the 1986 February revolution or the events after that." Unlike Trillanes, Honasan said he has not received any information regarding plans to unseat President Aquino. He believes, however, that the President's high trust ratings are an assurance that the people will not support any coup attempt. |

Because under the law these retired officers has not yet broken a law. How can you file charges if they had not done anything wrong under the law? You need to prove that first before you could convince the lawmen to file charges. |

Not yet. This is one way of monitoring them and prove without reasonable doubt that they indeed have broken the law. Then we file charges. |

Its not so easy to file a case without hard evidence. I hope they will be forging a strong case againts those rebels. Look what happened with CJ's impeachment. Poorly done. |

The word coup d' etat should be remove from every soldiers vocabulary, it's time for a professional and trust worthy AFP and I think they are slowly getting there. |

OMG May 2013 Senatorial election is a year away. So the circus starts for those coup plotting senators. |

Modernization should prioritize: Patrol Ships with air/sub/ship detection, fast & lightly armed for Navy. Surface Attack Aircraft with anti ship/sub attack capability for Airforce. SAM with Radars, Close AA battery capable of shooting ground targets too for Army. This triangle defense will work together and protect us from external threats. | |

Can Trillanes file them for conspiracy against the government? I hate this, but actually those coup-plotters want to repeat history as they don't want leaders who brush up corrupt people, just like Estrada did. IMHO, the whole EDSA II is just a conspiracy to let Arroyo in power. In 1989, coup plots failed, meaning that the next possible coups could fail immediately With only those former officials and officers trying to oust Aquino with only themselves, I don't think this plot would be likely to succeed. |
If you don't want a modern and capable AFP, you might want to get the f*ck off the Philippines because you don't deserve to be a Filipino that's why!

I hope they will not succeed either, but as the military doctrine says, never underestimate your enemies, which means these destabilizers should immediately be monitored by security and intel services. a media campaign by Pnoy will also be helpful with highlights on his accomplishments so far and he made afp modernization moved including increasing pay and benefits for cops and soldiers and housing. this media campaign along will make destabilizers in the back burner. highlight also the sufferings the people will endure if there will be another coup or if it turned violent, we do not want to be like Syria right now, or Libya or Egypt who still did not instill stability as this will take a long time, and that these coup plotters were crooks trying to cover themselves up from being charge and maintain the status quo of pabaon, they are against the good governance and transparency as it will affect their pockets. in the meantime those people in those countries are suffering big time. we do not want that happening to us now that the economy is on the rebound and investment is coming. this bastards should be arrested asap as evidence is gathered and presented. this is not good news for foreign investors so this coup plotters must be contained immediately no matter how small yet the smaller the weaker the better the easier to contain. |
