with this latest unconfirmed information about the PAF acquiring Harbin Z-9G modified attack helicopters, could this open the possibility of the Armed Forces of the Philippines slowly opening itself up to the purchase of Chinese-made weapons and equipment? are we going to see ourselves using stuff such as F-7 Airguard and JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft; WZ523 APCs; K-8 Karakorum trainers; Norinco CQ assault rifles; and Naresuan-type frigates?

And what's so wrong with that, eh? If we're ever in a war with China and they ever occupy us, our guerrilas would know how to use their equipment and we would be able to to replenish our supplies by raiding on enemy depots. Just a thought. Imagine having a whole guerrila Philippine Air Force operating behind PLA lines whose parts and fuel are scavenged from PLAAF aircraft? We'll know how their equipment operates and their capabilities since we're using the same equipment. And secondly, this negates a need to buy overpriced US/Western equipment. hehehehe...of course I'm getting too far ahead of myself here... But seriously, we should seriously consider Chinese or Russian weapons since other nations such as Pakistan are using both Western and East Bloc/Bamboo Curtain equipment, such as Malaysia with its use of both F-18s and MiG29s as well as Pakistan which was confirmed to have bought JF17s from China as well as 12 new Block 52 F-16Cs from the US.

Its not a bad idea but of course before buying anything one must study and test the proposed procurement of their stuff. One thing is for sure is that most of the Chinese inventories that they are showcasing have not been battle-tested. A rigorous test must be made by the AFP (for air, land and sea). I agree with Msantor that if ever a war should erupt between nations in the future, having some of their arms in our inventory we can better prepare to wage war with them. I have checked wikipedia about their hardwares and some of them are pretty worth lookin into. Who knows after the test the AFP may find something of equal to the Russian and US counterparts at a lower price.

There nothing wrong with buying Chinese made weapons as long as we are careful what to buy and ensure the quality of these weapons . Thailand ,Pakistan, and Srilanka Uses Chinese . We Should operate a mixture of both Western and East bloc weapons in accordance to our needs and military doctrine. But seriously I am hoping that we should also consider the South Korean and Singaporean made weapons too. |

Singaporean military hardware I must say is still in its growing stage. Although not all , but majority of them still needs a lot of honing. I have worked in Singapore for 5 years and have seen their military capabilities during their national day parade and open to public air shows. Although impressive to look at their combat readiness and capabilites need to be seen. Singapore, although a very progressive country, has never been involved in modern warfare. So most of their hardware have not been battle tested. Its good to try them out first before buying them. If given the choice between China, South Korea and Singapore, I would go for Chinese quality. They have more experience and quality control is almost 100% good, being a major manufacturer of almost 90% of US and other foreign name brands. |

Offering us their military hardware only shows that the Chinese PLAs and Chinese intelligence chief Qiao are bent on compromising the NPA and refuse to patronize Joma Sison's junked Maoism. All praises and best wishes to Chief Qiao!! Buy and buy them all. I am wondering why we still remain subservient to USA in letting them do the preferences when all their past colonies are all independent and buying either from Russia or China. We can buy 25 Chinese helicopters with the price of one US and the spare parts come in handy forever. |

we who grew with the Spam meatloaf and anything stateside is good mentality quiver at the thought of buying Chinese products - but hey, this is probably true a decade ago, but now Chinese products have improved greatly, another 5 years and they will be competitive with euro and US goods. now that's for consumer products, but the Chinese military products probably are more durable because its being used by their military... now the logic here is, if ever we are going to buy Chinese military hardware, then let's buy the hardware that they are actually using! in another forum, a chinese-made assault rifle was tested and compared against a US-made rifle, the Chinese rifle looked ugly and the finish is not shiny and beautiful - but during actual firing, after 5,000 rounds - the US rifle suffered 20 stoppages while the Chinese rifle only 3, much more to the surprise of the testers, when they inspected the barrel, the Chinese rifle has lower wear compared to the US-made rifle. now let's put aside our bias against anything that is not made in USA, heck, my spanking new Nike is Made in China! |

As I had asked in the other forum what could be the reactions of the CPP/NPA upon learning that there arch enemy is buying weapons intended to kill them from Comrade Maos country. The CPP sold out by Communist China for a sum of money. Will we see there front organization picketing the Chinese Embassy shouting " Down with Imperialist China! Down with Capitalist China!"? |
