To PO2 Arasain. :salute:

From: http://www.mb.com.ph/MAIN2006121282167.html

In a related development, a petty officer of the Philippine Navy died while helping rescue relatives and neighbors in Albay at the height of typhoon "Reming," the PN headquarters in Manila said.

He was identified as Petty Officer 2 Julhasan Arasain, who was assigned to a unit based in Lucena City.

Reports said Arasain was swept away by rampaging flood waters while helping in the evacuation of his relatives and neighbors from their homes in Barangay Busay, Daraga, Albay last Nov. 30.

Arasain helped rescue 11 persons, including eight children. According to accounts given by survivors, including his wife.

He repeatedly went back to his neighborhood to rescue others after moving his family to a safer area.

Navy public information chief and spokesman Cdr. Giovanni Carlo J. Bacordo said Arasain’s body and those of his companions were still missing to date, as his unit continued conducting retrieval operations, relief and rehabilitation efforts in the barangay.

His unit also reported that Arasain had gone home a day before to assist his family in preparing safety measures against the coming typhoon. Arasain, a native of Sulu, has two daughters and a son. (With reports from Mars Mosqueda Jr. and Yul Malicse)

By saving many lives at the expense of his own life is more than a heroic deed as a soldier as well as his private life.

May you rest in peace soldier, you are always in our hearts and memories. :salute:

You finally finished the race, brother. Actions speak louder than words. Rest in peace. And stay there "where the departed are now and "don't want to go back"" from where they were "

The Chief Executive also led the awarding of medals and citations to soldiers, including the Bronze Cross Medal to Navy Yeoman 2nd Class Julhasan Arasain, who saved 19 residents of Barangay Busay in Daraga, Albay during the height of Typhoon Reming last Nov. 30.

An experienced swimmer and member of the community, Arasain, a Muslim, saved 19 of his Christian brothers and his whole family from rampaging mud and floodwaters.

Missing since "Reming," Arasain's award was received by his wife Annie. The AFP has also extended educational grants to his dependents.

Requiem

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.

This be the verse you grave for me:
"HERE HE LIES WHERE HE LONGED TO BE;
HOME IS THE SAILOR, HOME FROM SEA,
AND THE HUNTER HOME FROM THE HILL"

the night!" - Dr. Jose Rizal
