this Fokker F27-500 is indeed a welcome addition to the Air Force's fleet of tactical aircraft. :thumb: i am curious though about the status of the other Fokker F27s in the PAF inventory. how are they? are they still operational? p.s.: more Fokker F27s and F50s on sale in airtrading.com.

Refurbished aircraft seen to boost PAF capability By Jaime Laude The Philippine Star 11/01/2006 The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has an added lift capability with the delivery yesterday of a newly refurbished F27-500 light transport aircraft from the United Kingdom. Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said that the P91.2-million aircraft may serve as an alternate to the C-130 cargo plane he normally uses for field visits. "That is an additional lift capability," Esperon said of the new aircraft acquired from Aerglobe, a British aircraft company based in Indonesia. Esperon said using F27-500 for his field visits is more economical in terms of fuel cost and flying time. He said AFP spends P300,000 per hour for a C-130 as against the P60,000 per hour for a F27-500. "I have this thing available, which is close to P60,000 per hour only with the same approximate number of passengers. So that is big savings on our part," Esperon said. PAF currently has two functioning C-130 transport aircraft. Considered the weakest in the region, PAF has embarked on a modernization that involves the acquisition of new aircraft under the Department of Defense’s Air Force Capability, Materiel and Technology Development (CMTD) program. Many PAF aircraft are of World War II vintage. With no imminent outside threat, the government sees more wisdom in acquiring attack and transport helicopters instead of modern fighter planes. Defense Secretary Avelino Cruz Jr. said earlier attack and transport helicopters would be more helpful in the anti-insurgency campaign than modern aircraft. Under his Philippine Defense Reform (PDR) program Cruz wanted to stamp out internal security threats first before shifting to external defense. At present, PAF is the only air force in the region that has no external defense capability following the decommissioning of its Vietnam War-era F-5 fighter jets in October last year. http://philstar.com/philstar/NEWS200611010416.htm ================================================= As i see it, it would have been better if they bought smaller but modern JET transport planes like the Learjet 45. That will be cheaper to maintain and the safety if far better than the accident-prone Fokker 50. The PAF should have bought this one; ![]() The Presidential Airlift Wing needs this too. Safe and economical. |

^ comrade Flipzi, perhaps you would like to upload the photo of the Learjet 45 in websites such as Imageshack, Photobucket and Tinypic so that all of us here can see it. ![]() aside from the Learjet 45, another good aircraft that the PAF can consider is the Fairchild Metro, which can fulfill light transport and maritime patrol and surveillance missions. large numbers of surplus Fairchild Metros can be found in the civilian market like Airtrading.com. ![]() -- Fairchild Metro. more about the Fairchild Metro in this Wikipedia page. |

It would be an awful waste if that Fokker is used merely to transport Brass and their Civilian superiors on sorties and junkets. It is better if we used it instead to airlift wounded personnel from mddle-line bases to bases where they can receive better treatment like in V Luna. We can also use it to rapidly airlift reinforcements like a platoon or two from the Light Reaction Batallion or bring badly needed supplies that can be flown in by medium-lift types like medicines, radios or NVGs. If Gen. Espperon, his staff, aides and close-in security need a plane for an inspection tour, he should just charter an Air Philippines or Asian Spirit airliner. |

The acquisition of this a/c was the subject of one of my old threads that got sabotaged by some sore losers. Vindication really comes in the end after all.
This practically screams Cobra and Huey II, but...does the PAF really fly World War II a/c to this day?! I don't think the reporter got this right... |

I was just about to add that the Air Force should make dual use of this F27 - troop transport and Maritime patrol arm it with rocket pods/20 or 30 MMs? But then i saw this website, the total Fokkers built - 786, not counting those that crashed (civilian/military) So the question is, where do we go for spare parts? if there is some compony providing support for Fokker, with the number of aircrafts still in service, would'nt the parts be expensive compared to other twin engined planes? http://www.zap16.com/civ%20fact/civ%20fokker%20f-27.htm |

^ exactly. Esperon has the balls to buy a Fokker F27-500 for his VIP transport needs while our troops continue to be denied of essential fixed-wing transport planes for their day-to-day operations.
