Several exercises are being conducted around the country to enhance interoperability of the US and Philippine forces. Aside from military exercises, extensive humanitarian assistance are being including in held in the southern region of Mindanao, where the US government is providing economic aid as well as military training to Filipino troops fighting Islamic militants whose support has been fuelled by poverty and underdevelopment.

Gawad Kalinga is an organization that provides shelter, medical treatment, education, and job skills to needy families.
