Cigarette Smoking is Dangerous...

Cigaret butt leads cops to hidden handgun

By RICO C. NAVARRO

A 25-year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of firearm when he mistakenly threw a cigarette butt in front of a group of policemen conducting night patrol in Quezon City last Wednesday.

Policemen and barangay watchmen said they were walking under an overpass on Commonwealth Avenue when somebody threw a cigarette butt at them.

The lawmen said this prompted them to go after Edward Espinosa and accost him.

When the police frisked Espinosa, they found a .38 caliber gun with four bullets tucked in his waistband.

"Naglalakad kami sa ilalim ng biglang may nag-hagis ng upos ng sigarilyo sa amin. Nang sinita namin at kinapkapan, nakuhanan namin siya ng baril," police said.

They immediately placed him under arrest and charged him with illegal possession of a gun.

Police said they are investigating the suspect for his possible involvement in the strings of snatching incidents in the Commonwealth area.

Espinosa is now detained at the QCPD Station 6 detention cell.

It reminds me of an incident when I caught a youth spraying graffiti on my fence wall. I grabbed him and confiscated the spray paint and spray painted his whole face and body before I let him go.

Robbery gang busted through ‘text’
By Jerry Botial
The Philippine Star 04/26/2007

The Valenzuela police busted a robbery-holdup gang and nabbed its alleged leader and two members yesterday in a series of operations in Bulacan and Caloocan City aided by text messaging

Chief Superintendent Pedro Tango, Northern Police District (NPD) chief, commended Superintendent Billy Beltran, Valenzuela police chief, Chief Inspector Danilo Bugay, city intelligence branch chief, and his men for neutralizing the Quiobe Group.

Tango identified the arrested suspects as Rommel Quiobe, 30, the alleged group leader; Luisito Sorio, 38, a native of Catarman, Samar, both residents of Libis Baesa, Caloocan City, and Rosemarie Tumibay, 27, a resident of Cofradia de Sto. Rosario, Paombong, Bulacan.

Superintendent Romeo Onte, District Investigation Branch chief, said the operatives also recovered an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol with six rounds of ammunition, and a .38 caliber revolver with three live bullets in the chamber of a Honda Wave motorcycle earlier stolen from an Indian national and other items taken from their victims.

Onte told The STAR that the group was believed responsible for robbing and shooting Franky de Leon, 33, a seaman, and Irmina Inta, 35, a businesswoman, at around 9:20 p.m. last April 14.

De Leon and Inta lost some P50,000 in cash, cellphones and other valuables. De Leon remains confined at the FEU Hospital in Quezon City due to the gunshot wounds he sustained when he resisted the suspects during the heist.

A day earlier, the suspects stole the Honda Wave of Jaswinder Singh, 46, an Indian national residing in nearby Barangay Karuhatan.

A breakthrough was made after Inta was able to communicate with the suspects by sending text messages to her stolen cellphone.

Inta pretended to be someone who wants to pay an undetermined amount of money and called up the suspects easily fell for the ruse.

Tumibay, pretending to be Inta herself, replied and agreed to meet the real Inta in Barangay Lugam, Malolos, Bulacan.

Bugay and his men proceeded to the agreed meeting place ready for an entrapment operation.

The team arrested Tumibay after receiving the marked money from the real Inta.

Chicken strangler jailed
By Ronilo Ladrido Pamonag
Saturday, January 5, 2008

ILOILO CITY – Upset that he could not sleep due to the crowing of his landlord’s rooster, a man finally decided to strangle the noisy bird.

Jomer Colacion, 28, went home drunk to his boarding house at Mabolo-Delgado yesterday at dawn.

He claimed to have tried to go to sleep but said he was disturbed by the incessant noise made by the chicken.

Colacio then went to the area where the chicken was kept, grabbed its neck, then twisted it with all the strength he could muster. The fighting cock died instantly.

Raffy Aguirre, Colacion’s landlord and the owner of the fighting cock, saw the whole incident.

Aguirre, however, decided not to confront Colacion because he was drunk.

Aguirre instead called the police. When a police mobile patrol arrived, he made a citizen’s arrest against Colacion.

According to reports, Colacion at first denied strangling the chicken. When responding police asked why his right palm had blood, he replied that he ate dinuguan. The cops, however, were not convinced.

He eventually confessed to killing the chicken, which Aguirre had been training for a derby scheduled tomorrow.

Colacion is now detained at the lockup of police precinct one, and faces charges for malicious mischief.

Cop collars burglar right inside his own store
10/24/2008 | 05:51 PM

MANILA, Philippines – A 25-year-old man made two mistakes when he broke into a mini-grocery store in Tondo, Manila, early Friday morning: He made a little too much noise, and the store he tried to burglarize is owned by a cop, who was still awake when he broke in.

Senior Police Officer 1 Ricardo Manansala, 43, had just closed his store and gone to his room a little past midnight. A few minutes after dozing off, he was awakened by some noise coming from his store, which was right next to his house on R. Fernandez Street.

When he went to the store to check, he caught a man, later identified as Jalen Radam, a resident Road 3 in Tondo, ransacking his store. Radam was about to take away some grocery items and a cell phone – all worth about P5,000.

Manansala himself collared Radam and alerted barangay watchmen.

Barangay officials turned over the suspect to Station 1 of the Manila Police District. - GMANews.TV

Cab driver tries to rip off LTO chief, loses license
GMANews.TV
GMANews.TV - 2 hours 21 minutes ago

MANILA, Philippines - A taxi driver thought he got some luck after his passenger "agreed" to pay a pre-arranged fare amounting to P700 for a trip from the airport to Quezon City - until he realized who his passenger was.

Radio dzBB reported that the cab driver - whose identity was withheld - instead lost his license and had his taxi unit impounded after the man whom he contracted for the exorbitant fare was Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Alberto Suansing.

Suansing said the taxi driver had charged him P700 from the airport to Quezon City, instead of using the taximeter. He said the driver had no idea who his passenger was, until he was told to enter the LTO compound in Quezon City.

When the driver finally found out who his passenger was, Suansing had his driver's license canceled and his taxi unit impounded.

Suansing said he will be conducting more surprise inspections in the coming weeks especially with the Christmas shopping season about to peak soon. - GMANews.TV

Gays beat mugger black and blue in QC — police
04/22/2010 | 01:29 PM

A mugger had the tables turned against him early Thursday after friends of a homosexual he tried to rob in Quezon City ganged up on him.

Radio dzXL reported Marlon Silvestre was beaten black and blue after the incident at Empire Street in Payatas village in Quezon City.

Initial investigation showed victim Rogelio Calopes and his gay friends were on their way to attend a wake when Silvestre blocked their path.

At knifepoint, Silvestre grabbed Calopes' bag containing clothes, a cell phone, and cash.

But Calopes' friends ganged up on him, beating him up before turning him over to the authorities.

Recovered from Silvestre was the bladed weapon he used.

He now faces charges of robbery and violation of the election ban on guns and bladed weapons. - LBG, RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
