:D Never mind the nickname guys but I really need some input for my chosen school paper guys, "The Philippine Navy Twenty Years From Now". Its basically just how you see our navy in the future, its warships (or lack thereof) and its role in national security...any random idea is welcome. Would appreciate also some website referrals and online materials... And kudos to the developers of this site, I found this thru filipinolinks.com while doing some research. thanks in advance ...-arthur  |

That actually is the image of the Canadian carrier battle group built around the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure, long since retired by the RCN. The Bonaventure carried F2H-3 Banshee fighter interceptors, CS2F Tracker ASW aircraft, Sea King helos, and H04S helos. |

I think 25 years from now, given the rate that politicians here actually do things there in the RP, we should have this more realistic order of battle: 1.) 4-5 Missile Frigates- Lafayettes, Perrys or the new LCS-(the USN DDX is not an option for the RP!) 2.) 4-5 corvettes of a newer corvette design; or perhaps the PN has gotten a license to reproduce the Cyclone/Alvarez class and has built more and upgraded them. 3.) 1-3 SSKs (more practical than a single costly carrier) 4.) 8-15 transport ships similar to the Frank Besson type or newer kind. 5.) several dozen FPBs- probably South Korean made- with short-range SSMs 6.) 1 Sub tender 7.) One or Two at-sea resupply ships for refuelling at sea similar to Canada's Protecteur class 8.) One Hospital Ship 9.) The "Ang Pangulo" converted to an attack transport, scrapped or used as target practice by Philippine Frigates 9.) one or two midget subs for SWAG 10.) A small naval air wing with 2-3 aging hand-me-down Orions or some newer Maritime Patrol Aircraft Sorry to say this, Spearhead, but I think your list sounds more like another wish list. But then again more capable naval experts might point out more holes in my own list. I still don't think a carrier is an option for the RP (maybe 40 years from now perhaps, or perhaps if there is a major oil strike in Philippine waters?) I just don't think the Philippine economy will be big enough in that time even to sustain even a small carrier like Thailand's Chakri Naruebet. But, hopefully, I will be surprised in 25 years... |

Take out the carrier, we don't need one, unless we have dreams of becoming the dominant power in Asia. |
