im surpise if that is in rural combat area why is it the commander of the unit allowed the soldier to carry live chicken yo know its noisy and can alert the enemy of the prsence of the soldiers.

.... because in that area they are more concerned about getting hungry than getting shot at... :armyLol:

Its not a combat situation. They're there to setup a perimeter around the volcano. Prevent usis and the like from coming to near when it explodes.

I wonder how they'll cook it: tinola, adobo, or plain roasted? Pucha, gutom tuloy ako ah....
You may have superior weaponry, but you're out of ammo, and I've still got plenty of rocks.

singa lion, that chicken is the army's highly trained early warning device, it cackles when NPA rebels are about to ambush the patrol thus warning the soldiers- i don't think singapore has a similar capability.

The chicken in the backpack made us lighten up and grin at the ability of the Pinoy soldier to make the best out of meager and inadequate food supply. Arguably, its the best chow out there, much much better than precooked MREs. Iba talaga ang sarap ng sabaw manok.

But SL did have a point there, the soldiers assisting the evacuation of residents near Mayon volcano were actually attacked by the uncaring communist terrorists.

I know you will find this a bit strange, but the Vietcong actually trained ducks to warn them of approaching American soldiers.

A Green Beret team took sometime to figure out why the VC almost always manage to slink out of their camp to escape their assaults, only to learn from an informant that the ducks actually quack to warn the enemy of their approach.
Anyone who comes to a counter-insurgency thinking it`s about killing terrorists is missing the boat. It`s really about winning the people. You can kill all the terrorists but then you`ve pissed people off and created 100 more.
