RP to receive forensic equipment from Australia By Joel Guinto INQ7.net THE PHILIPPINES is set to receive a 200 million-peso forensic equipment package from Australia for post-terror attack investigations, a police official said Tuesday. The five machines, previously pledged by Canberra, will arrive in Manila by August, said Chief Superintendent Ernesto Belen, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory. Belen said he met with Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Tony Hely in Camp Crame late Monday to thank the Australian government for the equipment and training assistance it had given to the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). "The equipment will be used for chemical analysis of explosive material… It will be used for the counter-terrorism capacity-building project of the PNP and the NBI," Belen told reporters. "I met with him [Hely] not to ask for more assistance but to thank the Australian government," he said. Belen said at least 25 crime laboratory personnel had been training in Australia on post-blast investigation and disaster victim identification (DVI) since 2004. In late February, the Philippines received two million pesos worth of DVI equipment from Australia, Belen said. Belen admitted that the crime laboratory was concentrating on training its men to make up for the lack of equipment. He said most of the equipment was donated by other countries, including the 400 million-peso Automated Fingerprint Identification System from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) "We're really left behind in terms of equipment," he said. Australian-trained PNP and NBI personnel had the opportunity to test the DVI equipment and their newly acquired skills when they helped in identifying victims of the ULTRA stampede in Pasig City and the massive landslide in Guinsaugon town, Southern Leyte early this year. http://news.inq7.net/breaking/index.php?in...&story_id=76717

Concerned personnel should be trained for these gadgets to work properly, the better if it was a part of the donation package. :thumb: |

And it keeps on coming! CIDG gets forensic hardware from US By Thea Alberto INQ7.net Last updated 06:10pm (Mla time) 07/28/2006 The Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (cidg) received on Friday eight-million pesos’ worth of computer forensic hardware and software from the United States Department of State Anti-terrorism Assistance Program. US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenney personally turned over the “highly sophisticated” equipment to PNP Director General Oscar Calderon, according to a press statement. The donation consists of forensic towers, mobile forensic laptops, cell and PDA seizure software, sim card seizure and image master software, among others, said the statement. The gadgets are designed to help investigators decipher, collect and transport data from one computer to another, it added. Director Jesus Verzosa, CIDG chief, said the donation is the second initiative of the US State Department to help the PNP fight cyber terrorism. http://globalnation.inq7.net/news/breaking...rticle_id=12307 This will help a lot in the fight against terror. :thumb: |
