I agree.
It is indeed necessary. That's why I do not disagree to the joint-use of most of the bases. With the bigger and critical bases like Basa, Butuan, Ilocos Norte (assuming it's there) and Andrews, the air force really needs to get its own for security reasons and so as to lessen conflicts with the operation of the civilain aviation. Actually, (considering the draft I made) all the other bases aside from Basa, Butuan, Zambo, Ilocos, Andrews, Palawan are more like "forward bases" only. Operation as a whole still requires the major bases to have a bigger and exclusive facility.
The air force really needs to expand and improve these facilities to accomodate the bigger number and the more sophisticated aircrafts.
The joint-use is a good cost-reduction scheme. But too much of it may also compromise the security and other factors affecting the operation of the bases. |

I thinks we should close down a third of the air bases is just wasting space. We could build malls and condos, for retiring AFP officers. |

If you learn more about military strategy, you would understand why we need more bases. If the rebel forces arent scattered across the archipelago, we would need fewer bases. If the frequency of rebel attacks and the need for air support, both on "close air support" and troop transport, arent high .... then we would need fewer bases. If we have a lot of long range Multi-Role Fighters of MRF (for ground attack),. based in Basa or Andrews, we would need fewer bases. Sadly, ALL THREE FACTORS are pressing hard on us at the same time.
That aint funny. It's depressing. |

Let me add this. The reason why we need to scatter our bases is to provide a closely-knit line of defense against internal and external threats. As you can see, most of the bases (that I have proposed) are only armed with Hueys and MG520s. A lot of our ground troops are complaining about the lack of Hueys (for troop transport). One unit even complained that the Air Force in Tacloban only provided them 2 Hueys to transport his whole platoon. That prevented them from launching the attack after the first insertion because they still need to wait for the next sortie to transport the rest of the platoon. This gave the communists rebels teh chance to flee. The Army soldiers went home with nothing. The Hueys were not even supported by MG520s. The insertion of troops in that hostile area could have put the lives of the troops in great risk. They were dropped in a rice field and SOME GOT THEIR FEET STUCK IN THE MUD. More like they're sitting ducks. Fortunately, the ambush or the attack on the approaching Hueys didnt happen. You see? This alone clearly tell us that Air Force isnt providing enough number of transport and attack planes. What about in the other areas where the rebels are strong like Sierra Madre including Quezon and Rizal, Bikol, Samar, Bohol, Mindoro, Panay, Compostela, Bulakan? What about the rest of Mindanao? You see now? The Air Force needs to field more transport and attack choppers. Not just two choppers but a number enough to carry a platoon or company in a single insertion so that the troops can launch the offensive once dropped off. Setting up more bases also means LONGER TIME FOR THE CHOPPERS TO STAY UP PROVIDING SUPPORT and FAST DEPLOYMENT OR FAST RESPONSE. |

And it is obvious we need more air assets instead of higher ranking officer's establishments. That is why such things don’t happen.

It is a valid factor but i dont think just because of that we will not set up more bases. THAT IS VERY WRONG because the drawbadk is that the ground troops are not having what they need to have, which makes them often fall short of achieving their missions. The longer the rebellion runs, the MORE MONEY IS WASTED. By the way, we dont need big bases with too many senior officers running them. The air bases i suggested were sort of a combination of a "forward air bases" and main bases. The bulk of it is composed of the forward air bases. In fact it is just composed of the Nimble MD520 and Hueys. The govt must consider what the ground troops needed to win the battle and not just look at it in the economics of manpower pooling for senoirs officials. In fact, even if you look at it that way, the benefits will outweigh the cost and sense of having more senior officials manning the bases. |

let us just improve on our current military and civilian air transport facilities by enabling them to handle both civilian and military traffic. yes, we do need to add more military bases for PAF aircraft to operate but for now, we'll have to make do of what we have. |

We can do that for bases close to populous urban areas like for example, Villamor, Antonio Bautista, Ebuen, Clark and even Fernando. They also need it for commercial air traffic and general aviation. However, there would also be airbases that would still be left to the exclusive use to the PAF because they contain air assets that need tighter security like Basa (which home to our not-so-fast jets, the S211s ) and Atienza (home of the most lethal aircraft in the PAF's fleet namely OV10s, SF260s and MG-520s). Opening the bases to civillian use may make them harder to secure. |
