Decommissioning Mactan AirBase of Heavy Airlift Wing to Civilain Control and transfer it to Mindanao area is not a strategic idea coz of the distance that our C130 aircrafts will have to travel if they are needed in the Northern part of our country...Fighting is not just located in Mindanao but in some parts also were NPA are active.

Cebu is located in the center of the whole archipelago and its purpose is unquestionable to give support for all areas in our country. External AirForce Defense should be focus on Palawan and Laoag since they are the frontier base of our national defense...South Philippines should be in CDO and Zamboanga...But i prefer the airbase to be located in Zamboanga for the Attack Wing group like the OV520, MG520 and Huey choppers.

I DO NOT PREFER TO CLOSE MACTAN AIRFIELD DUE TO ITS STRATEGIC LOCATION FOR OUR AIRLIFT SQUADRONS (CEBU IS AT THE MIDDLE OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THIS IS THE MOST ECONOMICAL LOCATION FPR OUR EXISTING FLEET OF C-130s TO TRAVEL AND SUPPORT (TRANSPORT) MILITARY PERSONNEL/ EQUIPMENT/ MATERIALS WITHIN OUR TERRITORY

I hope all the Military Facilities are in cluster [afb & army base, marine base and afb, navy and army base or all three near each other] they can be more stronger and can defend each other. If in the Future the PAF owns SAM systems that has a range of 50 to 80 km, the Army bse next door no longer needs their own anti-air system. If they do it will just be for short range and to defend mobile units. Should a rebel force builds up and tries to over run an airbase reinforcements is just a minute or less away...

Wouldn't be easy for a foreign threat to hit our armed forces in one swoop if we clump all installation in one area?

OK perhaps it is time to think outside the box...why waste our money on a base when we can have someone else build it for us.

Before you scream soverignty read it fully:

Option 1:

Invite major players to invest in building a base in the country. Give them a 20-30 year lease. They build the base to include facilities for our military. One side is the guest nation, the other side is ours (host nation).

They will also be expected to provide us with a certain level/monetary value of military equipment that is operable and not older than a certain period so that we have at least a decent capability verse what we have now.

This same country would also be expected to provide us with continual training to our leaders, operators and maintainers so that we can stay on top of current trends and hopefully lead us towards our own RMA.

There are a number of countries that would quite possibly be willing to engage in this effort.

--This provides our country with much needed "new" cash

--Gives us a new base

--Guest forces will need to pair with us to provide quality security for the base. If we pair in most aspects (not the interior of their secure facilities) then we stand to learn more in security.

--Gives us training

--Gives us newer equipment

Option 2:

Create a super-training area to include shoot houses, shoot-town, combat training areas, HLZ's, LZ's, DZ's and bombing ranges. Countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and the USA are running out of places to train in Asia. Yes they have Alaska but it is just not the same and has a higher price tag for them.

Once or more a year the countries that opt for this could be put in a position that they provide us with certain types of training. Or we could just task our super smart and motivated guys to do Liaison/oberver work and learn from what our counterparts are doing when they train.

This option gives us more control, reduces their price tag.

We could pair with a company that specializes in logistics and training. They run the contract, keep it honest and clean so we don't lose customers and we reap the funds and use those funds to pay for much needed military upgrades.

I have the ideas in mind on exactly how this will be done but will not share this on the forum at this time. The concept would be similar to the Americans management of Crow Valley and Cope Thunder back in the 80's.

None of this has to be eaxctly like I stated but certainly some permutation of the two ideas can be used.

It would require strong support of the politicians and for them to amend the constitution on option 1.

They are not willing to give us the funds needed to equip, train and maintain a proper military so they would at least owe us this..as long as we can keep their outstretched paws off of our new found assets. We also need to have the integrity and vision to properly manage the resources we find ourselves with or we will never get out of this hole we are in.

The Philippine Air Force will soon  set up  its regional tactical operation group headquarters at the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Negros Occidental.

The PAF in the Western Visayas presently has its  Tactical Operation Group-6 headquarters in Iloilo.

The establishment of the Air Force TOG-6 headquarters at the Bacolod-Silay Airport was endorsed by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., who requested for approval and authority from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to sign the memorandum of agreement by and between the province of Negros Occidental and the PAF.

The TOG-6 headquarters will house PAF air assets, such as helicopter gunship, war and cargo air transport planes. The Air Force headquarters in Region 6 was proposed to be transferred from Iloilo to Negros Occidental during the stint of retired General Victor Ibrado, then commander of the AFP Central Command.

Cayuse,

I read somewhere that they are planning to convert the old Bacolod airport to a commercial area. I like your idea though.
