Maybe in a generation or two!!!!! :thumb: PRFU squad for Sri Lanka Rugby 7s Sep 15-17 2006 Just got this message from Headroom on the Manila tonight forum site: http://manilatonight.com/index.php?showforum=193 Cappelan - looks like the line up will be as follows: 1.Carlito Abono (Filipino) 2. Jasper Ching(Filipino) 3. Paulin Padhayag (Filipino) 4. Max Stewart (Australian) 5. Carlos Reporas (Filipino) 6. Bruno Vergnes (French) 7. Noel Flowers (Filipino/Australian) 8. Jerry Echter (Dutch) 9. Jerry Branzuela (Filipino/South African) 10. Jason Foster(Filipino) 11. Rey Gigataras(Filipino/Australian) 12. Damien Allison(English) 13. Physio: Olive R. Rallanka (Filipino) Most of the expat players eligible to play were either unavailable or injured following the FB 10's. The Philippines is the lowest ranked team competing and the pool games are against Khyzakstan and Chinese Taipei. Although there was some concern about sending such an inexperienced squad to play, my thoughts are that it will be good for the young Filipinos to go and get some experience on the International Stage - the next step for Rugby in the Philippines. As the rank outsiders and underdogs there is absolutely nothing to lose. IT IS GREAT TO SEE A MAJORITY PINOY TEAM - THEY WILL LEARN A LOT FROM THIS EXPERIENCE. TAIWAN world ranking 41 Asian 5 & KAZHAKSTAN world ranking 49 Asian 8. PHILIPPINES world ranking 106 Asian 15 LITTLE DAVID v GOLIATH - BRING IT ON

Pool Results on Saturday 16/09/06 http://www.bangkokpost.com/Sports/18Sep2006_sport26.php Pool B: Chinese Taipei beat Philippines 49 points (2 goals, 7 tries) to 5 (1 try). Khazakhastan beat Philippines 46 points (3 goals, 5 tries) to nil. Chinese Taipei beat Khazakhastan 31-0. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE VOLVANOES TEAM FOR REPRESENTING THE PHILIPPINES IN THEIR 1ST ARFU 7s TOURNAMENT - WELL DONE GUYS!!!!!! SO ALL THOSE PINOYS IN THE DIASPORA THAT PLAY RUGBY UNION or LEAGUE MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PRFU & OFFER YOUR HELP TO THE PRFU www.prfu.com From a fellow Philippine Rugby poster on another forum site on PRFU's Sri Lankan 7s performance: http://manilatonight.com/index.php?showtopic=23734&st=120 The other thing that needs to be remembered here is that this was also a qualifying tournament for next year's 7's World Cup. The majority of the teams were professional - paid to play with lots of resources and money and training as a unit on a full time basis. The Philippines team was thrown together at the last minute when a position at the tournament became available - the team had a total of 2 training sessions together. Add this that the team lacked the experience of the the other countries and you get a better perspective of the challenge that the team faced as a bunch of amateurs. They didn't give in though, played hard and everyone should be proud of them.

Local Rugby club Manila Nomads THRASH HMAS Darwin's Rugby Union team: http://www.prfu.com/content/view/103/160/ Start of the PRFU 15s League Written by PRFU Monday, 30 October 2006 Sunday October 8th was the start of the PRFU 15-a-side Rugby season at the Nomad Sports Club, Merville Park, Paranaque. Four men’s teams participated in the afternoon event, including the Australian Navy team from the visiting ship, HMAS Darwin. The main game was between the Nomads vs HMAS Darwin. An interesting match was set as hard hits and tackles were displayed.HMAS Darwin drew first blood and scored within minutes of the start of the game. Nomads held their composure and got back into the game scoring shortly into the 2nd quarter. The experience in playing as a team of the Nomads showed on the field with their support play and scrumming taking control of the game and scoring another 4 tries until the final whistle blew, with the score 29 - 7 to Nomads.
