PMMA donates 10 rescue boats to PCG

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) received 10 brand new rescue boats from the alumni of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA).

PCG Commandant Edmund Tan elatedly received the 10 fiberglass rescue boats as well as 145 life vests and 100 hard hats.

Most of the PMMA alumni are now professional captains, engineers and shipping executives. They noticed the PCG’s lack of equipment during rescue operations whenever Metro Manila becomes flooded.

Tan said the new equipment will definitely ease and help their future rescue operations.

The donation was made in part of the National Maritime Week celebration. – from a report by Dexter Ganibe, dzMM

So these were the fiberglass boats

These are what we have in our unit, unsinkable. Unlike those rubberboats, it doesn't tears up. One negative thing about this is, it's heavy. The longer the rescue operations goes on, the harder (heavier) it is for the rescuers to move these on the ground from one location to another. :armysad:

Also, they should have ordered the model that could accommodate an Outboard motor.

The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) (Filipino: Akademya sa Bapor Pangkalakalan ng Pilipinas) is the Premiere Merchant Marine academy in the Philippines. Operated by the Filipino government under the supervision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the academy is located in San Narciso, in the province of Zambales. Students are called midshipmen but are often also referred to as cadets. Upon graduation students are commissioned as Ensigns (2nd Lieutenants) in the Philippine Navy Reserve. They have the option to start a career in the maritime industry or sign up for active military duty either in the Philippine Navy or the Philippine Coast Guard.
