This was back in Clinton's days as President and Pre-9-11. The US cancelled the sale because of "human rights" concerns, and the CF-5s were sold to the airforce of Botswana.

The big question mark is the J-79 engines, is the Philippines planning to buy Kfirs or F-4s?

Botswana? When? In their web of 2004 the following were listed

Poor Philippines... Botswana....

The Canadians are still offering to sell their CF-5A/D, all 36 of them. They come in 3 batches, original unrefurbished/unupgraded, a refurbished version, and a fefurbished and upgraded version. The latter were used as Lead-in Fighter-Trainers to the CF-18 in their air force, heavily refurbished and modernized. I don't know if the PAF still wants to retain older F-5 planes or to move into F-16s which the PAF cant afford right now. The price for an original configuration costs $1million each, refurbished cost $2.5million each, and upgraded/refubished version cost $3-4milliion.

These planes have about 3,000 flight hours, and the refurbished and refurbished/upgraded versions can go past 6,000 flight hours, about 15-20 years of service, if 200 flight hours per year(NATO minimum of requirements).

Yes, that's what I know. That's why I was surprised when you stated it was sold to Botswana.

In the other threads about the USD91M ISO budget remember, I was proposing to buy the 9 units of USD1M version and a couple of those USD2.5M for USD15M where the other half of the suppossedly USD30M share of the PAF can be used for other purposes. And on the next year the highest version can be acquired wth options to buy all. At least it will provide the PAF a decent squadron while waiting for the new MRFs. These CF5s are more modern than our existing fleet. It's better for the time being than none at all.

Read in one thread their abolishing the 5th Fighter Wing. With this CF5s, at least it will maintain the dignity of that unit.

Just my thought. :dunno:

Okay were in the same page. Yes the PAF did try to buy the 13 CF-5s, like what it says on the FAS.org website. And yes, the PAF did not receive it and yes the buyers ended up being the AirForce of Botswana. They are serving proudly as air defense fighters. While we have S.211s, OV-10s and SF.260s as our air defense "aircraft", which basically means we have no air defense.

Heres one of those CF-5s. Note the markings Botswana Defense Force. Sucks yes, looks better with hukbong himpapawid on it, just kidding, looks good in any markings. :drunk:

Pero kahit madugo (at marami pa rin revisions and additions) isinama ko ang ating F-5 to highlight what was lost when these were ill-supported and eventually retired.
Command is about authority, about appointment to a position. Effective leadership is different. It must be learned and practiced in order for it to rise to the level of art. You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment but you cannot lead without it; and without leadership, command is a hollow experience. .. a vacuum often filled with mistrust and ignorance.

The most under rated fighter plane in the world. SAyang di na naalagaan ng ayos. kung tutuusin basta well maintained lng airframe nya at updated ang battle technologies nya OK pa din yan. Remember the CF 5A?
you will never make me sing "internationale"
