It is time to buy some new jets for the PAF. It is-compared to our other Asian neighbors-a joke! The PAF couldn't defend the country in any ways. It's useless at the moment. I agree that that Saab builds very good jets but the Russian Su-30 is something what we need.It is highly agile and is one of the best fighters of the world. It even won 6:0 against the American F-15 in a simulated battle in India last year.
And our jets need some missiles. A modern aircraft without a weapon can't pose any threat to its enemies!!! :patrioticpinoy: Make our country the strongest in the region!Forget the over-expensive American fighters.

We could also start an own program building own jets with the help of Russia. The government has the money-but where does it land???

During the 70s (Marcos government) when Mindanao was in the verge of separation from the Republic and it was the height of AFP campaign against the MNLF.... Our country were able to acquired and build-our own weaponry.... bought F8 Crusadier jets and license to build & export the Super Pinto(Cali) jets, designed and build MLRS rockets.

How come now, it is possible to for us to acquire these military hardware in defense of our territorial sovereignty....

I believe we can start with what we have like the designs & technology of Super Pinto (Cali) and Defiant aircraft...and slowly we can acqure more sophisticated aircrafts for MRF.

Guys,

DID WE OVERLOOK THIS ONE?

We are trying to find a suitable indigenous MRF or Light Attack Combat/Attack Aircraft, right?

Since we have this Cali Pinto already, then why not just revive this Cali Pinto project?

I'm sorry to say this, BUT I highly doubt that the Philippine government has the money given the state of our economy. We must first destroy internal insurgencies, ensure stability and build our economy first before we can even consider acquiring more modern aircraft for external defense, let alone build our aircraft industry- we just don't have the economy or the large industrial base needed to support those aims brought up earlier.

We should look to the classic Asian Tigers like South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan-or even more recent ones like Thailand and Malaysia.

I really wish people would stop assuming the DND has the money- if there is it's being pocketed- how can AFP generals have nice houses while the enlisted men lack boots and new planes?

In our case, Let the Private sector involve in the Research and Development of the Cali Pinto, Hummingbird and Defiant. We still see a greater value selling in the aircraft in half the price of the current market price. Just local investor should be involved here in the development or PADC should be privatized first.

The only way we could start our local fighter is to let our own business man involve in this project. With a proper safety net provided by the law.

US refurbishing 26 helicopters for RP—envoy

Ambassador to Washington Albert del Rosario has announced that the Philippines has 26 helicopters in various stages of refurbishment in the United States. Of these, 20 helicopters are US-funded.

The US-funded helicopters are comprised of those pledged by President George W. Bush during his October 2003 state visit to the Philippines when he promised to provide 20 helicopters plus 10 helicopters as spares. Separately, another six helicopters undergoing refurbishment are funded under the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Modernization Fund.

Of the 20 helicopters committed by President Bush, eight had been inducted for refurbishment. The other 12 helicopters are awaiting similar induction. The 10 helicopters intended as spares are being used in the refurbishment process, Del Rosario said.

Of the six Philippine-funded helicopters, three have been completely refurbished and are ready for shipment, while the other three are expected to be completed soon for delivery.

Del Rosario said the Philippines will therefore stand to obtain delivery of 14 fully refurbished helicopters this year (eight US-funded and six Philippine-funded). It is possible that two more US-funded helicopters may be delivered within the year for a total of 16 for 2006, with the balance of the remaining 10 to be expected in 2007.

Well, under current PAF procurement plans, we will only start shopping for jets in `11. These would be used as lead-in flight trainers to double as light attack jets or fighters. Multi-role fighter jets would be acquired by `15 at earliest.

Plans can change depending on the state of the economy or other factors like Taiwan jitters and whatever developments in our political arena.
