many defense analysts have already said from the very beginning- NO NAVY will take the Philippine Navy seriously unless the latter is able to field A DECENT NUMBER OF NEW WARSHIPS AND ANTI-SHIP AND AIR DEFENSE MISSILES.

there is no denying to the fact that the Philippine Navy needs to get both OPVs (which are not really being armed with missiles but provisions for the addition of such systems are in place in the vessels) and guided-missile corvettes but there is also a need for a substantial number of missile-armed fast attack crafts. :fire:

:exactly:

The Mischief Reef takeover could have been prevented if only our lawmakers provided our military with what they needed.

however, given the prevailing circumstances, only the Jacinto class patrol vessels, Cyclone class patrol boats and PKM patrol boats have the actual capacity to be upgraded for the addition of missiles, therefore the PN needs to get new combat vessels, in particular OPVs, guided-missile corvettes and missile-armed fast attack crafts, ....

and retire its JURASSIC destroyer escort and corvettes.

Well, DEFINITELY.

Aside from it doesnt have the needed capability to suppress an external aggression .... OR EVEN PROJECT A LETHAL IMAGE TO DETER AGGRESSORS.. ... the cost of maintaining these old ships is not cost-efficient anymore.

We should sell these ships instead and add the proceeds to the modernization fund or use it in upgrading newer ships like the Jacinto-class.

They are afraid that AFP will become "messiah" AGAIN..

They don't trust the AFP because of what happened before.. They thought that with the present set-up(underequiped and undertrained), nobody will threaten them to work their butts out for the people.

In short, they stole money without the people knowing it... :headbang:

If that is their rationale then it is better for us all to support a military junta...

... BECAUSE THEY ARE COMPROMISING THE NATION'S SECURITY JUST TO GIVE THEM THE FREEDOM TO RANSACK THE GOVT.
:headbang:

We've already lost the Mischief Reef because of these evil lawmakers' greed!

if such kind of attitude will persist and add to it the apathy of the Filipino people towards a strong military (hang-over of the Martial Law days, perhaps?) and "the already accepted practice" of graft and corruption in the government, military and private sectors, then it is not just the AFP that will lag behind from that other countries BUT ALSO THE PHILIPPINES AS A WHOLE. :nono:

We have to remind our lawmakers that a strong national defense is a prerequisite for a lasting peace.

And Lasting peace is a prerequisite for economic growth.

^ sadly, we Filipinos are only known to act when everything is too late. we Filipinos are not yet alarmed to see Mischief Reef being occupied by PLAN forces but wait till you see one of the major islands, e.g. Palawan, Busuanga and Mindoro, fall into the hands of the Chinese or see them make an amphibious landing in Ternate or along Lingayen Gulf.

they might be far-fetched possibilities but sadly, we have to prepare of it. of course, i order to prepare for such eventuality, A MODESTLY-ARMED BUT VERY CAPABLE Air Force, Navy, Marines and Army will be needed. :fire:

.... The Mischief Reef was conceived as far-fetched then by our stupid lawmakers and leaders.

.... so is Iraq occupying Kuwait.

.... so is the 9-11 attack

.... so is the bombing in Indonesia, the biggest Islamic state in the world

.... and so on.

National Defense is about preparing for any eventuality.

How can you set up an effective national defense when our lawmakers are so stupid anyway?

our lawmakers and most Filipinos are apathetic towards the need for a strong military force to protect the sovereignty of the Republic from both internal and external threats. we will only act if things already go out of hand and everything seems to be too late. :demon:

again, let me repeat what i have posted here earlier:

"many defense analysts have already said from the very beginning- NO NAVY will take the Philippine Navy seriously unless the latter is able to field A DECENT NUMBER OF NEW WARSHIPS AND ANTI-SHIP AND AIR DEFENSE MISSILES.
