THe situation is deteriorating in the US. Floods, looting, missing people, general chaos and severe racism. Come to think they started calling it a tragedy from the beginning. But when that happens here we call it the 'rainy season'... Anyway, philippine joking aside, the US congress has approved 10+ Billion dollars for relief efforts, the national guard has been mobilized and about 2 dozen countries have pledged thier support... Why havent we? Just a show of sympathy would greatly boost Gloria's small stature in the global stage(pardon the pun, ahem...) |

Watching Katrina's refugees on CNN, I have come to a conclusion that America is really a great country. Even it's poor people are fat. |

It's bad enough that the sick and aged are stranded in hospitals and have to be saved at all costs but many of those fat assed, welfare dependent, crack smoking morons deserve to be stranded in s@#t infested water. a) You are a moron for staying in the city when you were asked, then later ordered to leave and given every opportunity to depart. b) If you have the ability to wade through chest deep water to steal yourself a pair of Nike shoes, a flat screen television, and a bucket full of beer, chances are you can walk your little ass out of the city and out of harm's way. c) The simple fact that these selfish idiots decided to make very poor decisions now forces intelligent men and women to risk their lives knowing full well that their effort will not be appreciated nor remembered given the short attention span of these selfish assholes. d) The reason America is not getting the amount of sympathy from the world as expected is because items A-C are apparent to everyone else in the world. Only Americans see logic in continually providing aid to idiots who are only going to keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. e) The best article I read was about a man who, upon viewing his dead neighbor, began screaming at his corpse saying "What was wrong with you! All you had to do was evacuate! but no, you had to be a moron and now you're dead!" It was the first time the media stated what I have felt over the past few days. Unlike the victims of Asia's Tsunami who had no choice, what do you say about people who stupidly chose to stay in the path of certain destruction. They have a moron of a governor and an idiot of a mayor. Let's hear them singing "We re-built this city...on rock and roll." |

Complacency to a strong, always depended on by the world (to come to everyone's rescue) ever since is what's killing and hurting those "Katrina" survivors now. The conditions these New Orleaneans are going through is deploring. Just be glad that we haven't seen such extreme dire straights in the Philippines whenever we experienced such calamities like over there right now. In a way I agree, that if you live in a place where it is below sea level, and since time memorial had the kesera (bahala na) mentality and now you are befalling such when having been given more than enough ample time to evacuate before the hurricane struck,.... such where just asking for it and the blame is on them. They still have to be rescued though. But be not surprised since we too have provinces in our respective domains that get hit severely everytime a typhoon strikes. Yet, those folks from such places don't leave. What do you think about that? |

Not just 25 but Send 100 medical personnel there. In reality US is in need of more medical personnel. Also US is long ally with our country nothing wrong with that just medical personnel only. Humanitarian purposes is nice way of helping Uncle Sam. |

28,000 FILIPINOS IN KATRINA’S PATH![]() Washington, D.C. --- With about 28,000 Filipino immigrants in the three states devastated by Hurricane Katrina, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo instructed the Philippine Embassy and Consulates General in the United States to monitor the status of Filipinos in these states. Romulo issued the directive even as he assured that the “government is ready to extend all possible assistance to our nationals who may be affected by this natural catastrophe.” “The Embassy and Consulates are ready to assist our nationals in the hurricane-affected areas,” Romulo said. There are 17,055 permanent Filipino immigrants in Florida, 6,801 in Louisiana and 3,845 in Mississippi, according to the updated US Census as of December 2004. The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. and the Consulate General in Chicago have yet to receive a report of any Filipino casualty as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Following the instructions of the DFA chief, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago reported that it is maintaining constant telephone contact with Honorary Consul General Cielo Martinez in New Orleans and with some members of the Filipino community in Mississippi to assess the latest situation in their respective areas. “So far the Consulate has not received any reports of Filipino casualties in the catastrophic hurricane, Katrina,” Consul General Blesilda Cabrera informed Romulo. Earlier, Martinez informed the Consulate General that “many Filipinos in New Orleans area heeded the call to evacuate the city ahead of the coming storm and some have temporarily moved to other states like Florida and Texas, while others travelled to other parts of Louisiana away from the storm’s path.” In the light of the devastation brought by the hurricane, Consul General Cabrera assured the Department that the Consulate will “continue to monitor the latest developments in the areas even if communication facilities have been deeply affected by the hurricane making it very difficult to call people in the area.” She further assured that “the Consulate General is ready to extend assistance in case there have been Filipinos affected by the hurricane.” US state officials fear that more than a thousand could be dead as a result of the hurricane. They also said that residents of the US Gulf Coast face the storm’s devastating impact: loss of electricity and phone services for millions, widespread flooding, massive destruction to property, limited shelter and rising casualty toll across at least three states. Thousands of people have remained in evacuation centers as officials warned them that it is still dangerous to return home. All airports in New Orleans area as well as the Gulfport-Biloxi Airport in Mississippi were closed to commercial service. Secretary Romulo also conveyed “the condolences and sympathy of the Philippine government and people to the people and governments of the US states hit by the hurricane especially the states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama with our hopes and prayers for their quick recovery.” There are over 2 million Filipinos in the United States, comprising the third largest migrant group after the Mexicans and Chinese. http://www.filipinoexpress.com/19/36_news.html ------------------------- Rice acknowledges RP support for Katrina victims, says DFA First posted 10:44pm (Mla time) Sept 05, 2005 By Veronica Uy INQ7.net US STATE Secretary Condoleezza Rice has publicly acknowledged the Philippine government’s offer to send a team of aid workers to the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged US Gulf Coast, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday. A 25-member team of doctors, nurses, and sanitary engineers will be sent to the US to assist in the relief and rehabilitation efforts in areas devastated by the hurricane, Malacañang announced on Saturday. At the same time, the Philippine Red Cross is donating 25,000 dollars for the victims of last week’s storm that left hundreds dead. The first 10 members of the team are scheduled to leave next week, Malacañang said. The United States has traditionally been one of the biggest sources of official disaster assistance to the Philippines. US troops provided help after storms struck the country last year, leaving about 1,800 people dead or missing. At the same time, Filipino diplomats in the United States are launching a fund-raising drive with an initial donation of at least 10,000 dollars. Filipino-American business leader Loida Nicolas-Lewis pledged to donate 10,000 dollars. Philippine ambassador to the US Albert del Rosario advised Filipinos in the United States send check donations to make them payable to the American Red Cross. Del Rosario said their donations will be posted on the embassy website and a running tally will be regularly updated. He also appealed to Filipino-American medical professionals to help in the relief and rehabilitation efforts. DFA spokesman Gilbert Asuque said the Philippine embassy and consulates in the US have not received any reports of Filipino-American casualties. Earlier, Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo instructed the Philippine embassy and the five consulates general in the US to keep an eye on Filipinos in the states hit by the hurricane. He said the Philippine government “is ready to extend all possible assistance” to Filipinos who could have been affected by the storm. As of December 2004, there are 17,055 permanent Filipino migrants in Florida, 6,801 permanent Filipino migrants in Louisiana, and 3,845 permanent Filipino migrants in Mississippi. http://news.inq7.net/common/print.php?inde...9252&site_id=18 Indeed it'd be a nice sign of appreciation by sending additional teams. |
