Just ain't gonna happen guys.
The only scenario(however unlikely) that I can think of is some kind of action against a terrorist group known to be plotting an attack against Australians and the refusal of the host (ASEAN) nation to take any action.
A surgical strike to counter this, would have a very good chance of succeeding.
The question then is, what would be the response of firstly the country involved and then ASEAN as a whole.
What response would the country, or ASEAN be able to muster?

To talk abt OZ capability of a war against Asean that you should look at the orbat of the OZ!!!!

All OZ is capable is of airstrike and perhaps amphi ops against relatively unprotected small island , that is becos OZ army is abt 24K active + 20K of reserve , so I believe it could raise at best abt 2 Div of mechanised forces.

It's airforce is also not that large , mainly defensive, 71 F/A-18 + plus 32 F-111s.

It's F-111s are capable to do LR airstrike against some cities in SEA but you also have to consider the air defence capability of some SEA's AF.

The strongest arms of Australia is their navy, abt 14 FFG plus 6 subs.

So in reality is, the OZ is incapable of land invasion against the stronger nations in SEA.( Indonesia, SG, Thailand etc)

Likewise SEA is also incapable to do a land invasion against the OZ becos of their strong navy unless SEA combined all the navies and amphi forces which will be fairly even against OZ navy.

Airstrike against some SEA nations is possible by the OZ becos of poor AD in some SEA nations by it will difficult against some cities in SEA, SG is of course the best AD in SEA, Thailand and Vietnam will be difficult too.

Jarkata should be heavily protected by not the rest of the nation, MY is able to give some resistance to airstrike but not much , the rest of SEA is easy meat for OZ's airstrike.

dont forget singapore I-Hawk & vietnam S300 i believe can be a credible threat to OZ, our F16 D Block 50+ and AH 64 is another threat, almost all ASEAN countries excluding Singapore have a vast jungle that can be usefull. many of our flats are built with bomb shelter, some are above ground, some are underground ect ect....the OZ may need a lot of bunker buster when dealing with singapore.
