Of course not. We need a naval force in order to keep modern piracy and smuggling in check, especially since the Air Force does not have the assets to patrol such a huge coastline.

If we are going to decomission the Navy, we might as well give all its enlisted personnel, its newer vessels and its assets to the Coast Guard and get rid of the Navy staff/leadership.

Besides both the Army and the Marine Corps need amphibious transports to bring them from island to island.

Downsizing the navy maybe a good idea, but not total abolition unless we expand the Coast Guard's role.

I totaly agree..Our navy might be the weakest in the region but it has a job to do. Despite its shortcomings it is still a deterrance on some aspects. It is still capable of performing its duties depite its limitations.

Whats does your title thread mean, "Arrogance despice Defense"?

And what kind of a notion is decomissioning a Navy in a country that is an archipelago by nature?

Despite the limited hulls the Navy has, it still manages to fulfill most if not all of its missions - and maintaining hulls maybe as old as your father ( or even grandfather) to still perform broad missions in and around our seas is a feat in itself, hence deserving our kudos and support - and not a silly question as disbanding the naval force.

If you live in Nepal or even Lesotho, maybe you can ask that question. Even the Austrians who are landlocked have a naval force of sorts too. Consider that.

Indeed, common sense is not very common nowadays... :headbang:

I find this idea hilarious!

We are an archipelagic state and we can only implement an effective defense setup, BOTH INTERNAL and EXTERNAL, if we have a STRONG NAVY.

That's one.

Another simple reason is, Boracay could have lost all its tourists if not for what the Navy has been doing in projecting a secure environment around Boracay.

I wont elaborate further because i can not believe people would prefer downsizing or decomissioning it!

Just my view, nonetheless. I hope those who want it decomissioned are indeed wrong right from the very beginning.

BTW, why our Navy is weak is not the Navy's fault but because of the top decision-makers and the lawmakers who control the budgetary allocations.

:nono: It is big mistake if we will decomission our navy. we badly need them even if they have no enough resources, they still perform their jobs.you cant just decommssioned a very important military institution becuase of lack of equipments. they have also an alternate task to perform just to show that they are still capable of doing something.

i disagree with the idea of "decommissioning" of the Philippine Navy as much as i disagree with the "grounding" of the Philippine Air Force. :nono:
