What is the lowest rank in the Philippine Navy that is allowed to command a ship? Are patrol boats (such as the Conrado Yap or Thomas Batilo class) ever placed in the command of an Ensign or Lieutenant, Junior Grade? Just curious.

I am well aware of the Navy ranking system- you didn't answer my question. What is the lowest-ranking PN officer that is ALLOWED TO COMMAND A SHIP? ARE ENSIGNS or LT JGs allowed to command Thomas Batilo or Conrado Yap class Patrol Boats as COs, or just as OODs whenever they stand watch?

Normally, a naval officer is a CDR, or Capt when they command a ship. Small patrol craft such as PCFs are not even commanded by Ensigns or LtJGs, they are commanded by CPOs although an officer may be in command of several PCFs. He does not necessarily skipper the boat.

Thanks for the reply. How about LCVPs/ small landing craft?

I hope you're aware that your forum name is derogatory when spoken in Mexican Spanish. Just a heads up.

Greetings,
Look at the landing craft; does the PN operate this type? What type is this anyway?

And since we are in the topic of which ships are commanded by who; what kind of officer commands the peacock, cyclone and aguinaldo class ships. Don't you think the navy needs ensigns or at least Lt(JG)'s to command at least a small patrol boat such as the sea dolphin class or even landing craft like the one above? That will give them experience in commanding larger vessels later on.
God bless . . .

Ens & LTJG ship command? None, these officers are assigned as Weapons Officer, Supply Officer, Communications Officer but CO of Ships I only recall an LT(SG) commanded a Patrol Craft but not Gunboats such as Batillo Class.

Normally the ranks of LCDR & CDR are given Command of PN Ships.
