These small boats should be issued to the PCG instead (focus on inshore patrol) so the PN can concentrate on big naval vessels for external defense.

:agree:

That should be our LONG TERM GOAL.

The Coast Guard's current function will blend well with that (inshore patrol) tasks that you've mentioned.

Just one concern though. The Navy's inshore patrol task shouldnt be totally turned over to the CG.

Spec Ops functions or Task Force functions similar to the Boracay setup should be maintained.

Else, the CG will be forced to create it's own SWAG unit and render the Navy's elite underutilized.

That's gonna be a waste of valuable asset.

The Coast Guard's task should focus mainly on maritime law enforcement and safety, including environmetal protection & anti-illegal fishing.

I would suggest arming the CG with more SAR ships and smaller Fast Patrol Crafts (35 knots minimum speed) to chase illegal fishermen and pirates.

More SAR choppers will also be ideal.

The Navy should still handle anti-piracy, anti-smuggling, poaching, illegal entry or human smuggling.

The Navy should turn over all small crafts, like the one below,.... (Smaller than the PKM and the Andrada-class boats) to the CG or PNP Maritime Group. This will free up maintenance funds which can be tapped to enhance the capabilities of bigger ships.

The PNP Maritime or CG upon receipt of the Navy's small crafts should focus more, aside from inshore patrols, on anti-illegal fishing and riverine patrols, particularly in the commercially busy rivers in Mindanao, like the Rio Grande.

Flipzi, the picture in the foreground is one of the Andradas. The background is one of the PKMs.

Good news. Are the boats brand new?

Age of SoKor PKMs range from less than 20 - 30 years but they are well-maintained, at least in RoKN service.

BTW, I read once in Manokski's that PG 116 - BRP Nicolas Mahusay was intended as spares source but instead activated by the PN. Has that involved too much funds from the PN? I asked this questions since there are lots of decom vessels in the U.S. and being donated for free (NAVSEA) maybe thru the ingenuity of our PN they can make use of some of those and activate them? Maybe if we buy some of their functioning seconds, we can ask those freebies as part of the package.

Just some thought. :dunno:

:exactly:

There are other countries selling their older ships but it is only the US that is giving us these ships at a friendly price, just like the Cyclone-class boat.

That channel should be taken considerably. :exactly:

PGMA can do a lot to get us more ships that are better than the Cyclones.

We can even get their decommisioned guided-missile ships through this.

Their Coast Guard cutters are good picks for our Navy as well.

We actually have both versions.

Some have a 20mm Gatling forward gun, some have the twin 30 emerlec.

Thanks, Manokski! :armycheers:

We would appreciate much if anyone can post a photo of PG116 (PG 116 is armed with one 20 mm Vulcan cannon).
