Two additional PKMs gunboats are being acquired from the South Korea this year. Bids are already being solicited for the transport of the gunboats from South Korea to Manila. More info on www.Hueybravo.net coming...

Good news. Are the boats brand new?

These small boats should be issued to the PCG instead (focus on inshore patrol) so the PN can concentrate on big naval vessels for external defense.

Good find, saver. :thumb:

These PKM class will surely fit our requirements for our coastal patrols.

:agree:

That should be our LONG TERM GOAL.

The Coast Guard's current function will blend well with that (inshore patrol) tasks that you've mentioned.

Just one concern though. The Navy's inshore patrol task shouldnt be totally turned over to the CG.

Spec Ops functions or Task Force functions similar to the Boracay setup should be maintained.

Else, the CG will be forced to create it's own SWAG unit and render the Navy's elite underutilized.

That's gonna be a waste of valuable asset.

The Coast Guard's task should focus mainly on maritime law enforcement and safety, including environmetal protection & anti-illegal fishing.

I would suggest arming the CG with more SAR ships and smaller Fast Patrol Crafts (35 knots minimum speed) to chase illegal fishermen and pirates.

More SAR choppers will also be ideal.

The Navy should still handle anti-piracy, anti-smuggling, poaching, illegal entry or human smuggling.

The Navy should turn over all small crafts, like the one below,.... (Smaller than the PKM and the Andrada-class boats) to the CG or PNP Maritime Group. This will free up maintenance funds which can be tapped to enhance the capabilities of bigger ships.

The PNP Maritime or CG upon receipt of the Navy's small crafts should focus more, aside from inshore patrols, on anti-illegal fishing and riverine patrols, particularly in the commercially busy rivers in Mindanao, like the Rio Grande.
