Philippine F-8 static display after Mount Pinatubo eruption

In late 1977, the Philippine government purchased 35 ex-US Navy F-8Hs that were stored at Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona. Twenty-five of them were refurbished by Vought and the remaining ten were used for spare parts. As part of the deal, the US would train Philippine pilots in using the TF-8A. The F-8s were grounded in 1988 and were finally withdrawn from service in 1991 after they were badly damaged by the Mount Pinatubo eruption and have since been offered for sale as scrap.

I don't see any markings of PAF on the plane, sir

This is actually an early model F-8, it lacks ventral fins, fuselage missile rails and the IRST device/lens mounted on top of the nose. those were added later on. PAF flew H models which had all of them. come to think of it, I do not recall seeing PAF F-8's to have carried the fuselage missile rails, either inflight or on the ramp in Basa.

As you can see in the pic, it says cubi point. it used to be a staging area for vietnam bound usn ac. this was also where the refurbished ac were reassembled and later flown to basa for acceptance by PAF.

No good na para sa atin ang mga lumang Crusaders despite the impressive service they gave while in Philippine service. We need an economical yet has good performance aircraft to fill the shoes vacated by the F8s and F5s. Malabo pa mabuhay muli ang local aviation industry but we can always pressure our officials to make small steps towards a restart.
Command is about authority, about appointment to a position. Effective leadership is different. It must be learned and practiced in order for it to rise to the level of art. You must love those you lead before you can be an effective leader. You can certainly command without that sense of commitment but you cannot lead without it; and without leadership, command is a hollow experience. .. a vacuum often filled with mistrust and ignorance.

But i still salute the services of the "GUN FIGHTER" as it was known, In the services of our country's Air Force :salute:

Did you know, that why muslim countries never acquire the Crusaders? because of it's name, Insulto sa kanila if they get those birds. Crusaders were name after those Christian Warriors fighting the turks, during the dark ages.

Adrian,

Just a slight correction on your statement about the Crusaders. The Crusaders are mostly Europreans that fought the Muslim not during the dark ages but during the middle ages between 1095-1291 AD. The dark ages occurred way before that just right after the fall of the Roman Empire.

Going back to the topic. Yes, that is a very interesting observation that Muslim nations never had or did not buy the planes. Curiously, only the Philippines and the French Navy besides the US that were the primary users of this plane.

Did the Philippine Air Force used the F-8 Crusaders against the MNLF? That will make it more ironic! Hehehe
