I do not argue that China is a 'threat', but I think that it is best to befriend the dragon at the time being and build up an effective defense; at least this way, if the dragon ever decides to bite..one can bite back. NO?

:agree:

'The enemy attacks, we retreat; the enemy camps, we harass; the enemy tires, we attack; the enemy retreats, we pursue'

- Chairman Mao

The above is summarized in the AFP modernization motto: "Never fight on equal terms".

Hahahaha well said amigong Adroth.

Besides, if the Chinese ever foolishy try to invade the Philippines, they will be pitted against the best guerilla force in all of Asia even in the world. No Chinese machinery will protect them from 86 million filipinos with the will for freedom, no? The japanese and Americans can attest to the ferocity of our pnoy brothers.

As a thai and an ally of Philippines, we are happy to have you guys as allies, not enemies. LOL.

Sirikottong, can you deny or confirm that the Naresuan never had Mk.41 8cell VLS that was originally to come to the ship-and fire the SeaSparrows-. It is my understanding that the Thai Navy cancelled the Mk.41 VLS that was to originally to come with the ship as a cost reducing measure.

Well you see the ship, it is a chinese hull with US weapons, minus the 37mmAA guns and minus the Mk.41 VLS, if im right, so it is do-able. As to if it is better than to buy similar brand new ships from Western companies? Who knows...:drunk: We cant experiment, we dont even have missile capability.

These will be a very good move. I agree purchase the hull and armed it according to our desire and specs.

well, for the time being, yes, i agree that the Philippines maintain friendly relations with China but i doubt that the Chinese will sell us weapons that we might use against them when tensions arise. besides, it is still the Chinese government that has the last say on whether or not they will sell weapons to the Philippines.

about the idea of buying Chinese warships, how much did it cost Thailand to buy the Chao Phraya and Naresuan classes of frigates? did it involve any special deal such as a counter-trade agreement to partly pay the price of the vessels? :dunno:

how can the Thai and Filipino navies have full-scale cooperation? :specool:

The type IV frigates are HTMS Taksin (delivered in November 1995) and HTMS Naresuan. The four Jianghu-class FFGs are the HTMS Bang Pakong, HTMS Chao Phraya (delivered in 1991), HTMS Saiburi, and HTMS Kraburi . The ships were purchased at "friendship prices" of 2,000 million baht each, compared to the 8,000 million baht price tag for Western-built frigates.

Considering that each ship cost our navy an estimated 2 billion baht and a baht is equivalent to about $40, then each ship cost us around $5 million. All 4 ships cost the Royal Thai Navy no more than $30 million (adding ammunition, spare parts, etc).

Payment of the frigates came purely from capital; the good will price was Beijing's show of good grace to Bangkok and a parallel to our booming trade (electronics, agriculture, products, etc).

Although I am greatful of the Chinese government for this naval deal; I still hold hesitant feelings towards them; their seeming cozying up to Thailand can be seen by many of our politicians and most of our military men/women as intercedive. I personally dont like it when the naval command is boasting the Chinese; I agree that they have a great influence, but by putting all faith in the good will of China is stupid on our part. Blind, really. As for the question on Thai and Philippine naval cooperation, we should hold joing naval excercises near Palawaan. The Royal Thai fleet and the Philippine Fleet and with our combined air forces, it would be a good show of force to the Malaysians, Chinese and Vietnamese no? Bangkok and Manila def. need to increase military dialogue; its really for our interests.

MALAYSIANS I UNDERSTAND BUT WHY CHINA

Because of what they did in Mischief Reef. That's why.

We are not even thinking that China will invade us.

It is just that we cannot allow the Chinese to get what is RIGHTFULLY OURS!

Their structure in Mischief reef is the one closest to Palawan.
