Amazing! Although I think the Nareusan-class vessel looks like an American Arleigh Burke class destroyer.

correct me if i'm wrong but one of the Chao Phraya class frigates was severely damaged during the December Tsunami. the ship was even brought several meters inland by the giant waves. ![]() hmmmmmmm... is it really possible to integrate non-Chinese weapons and equipment into a Chinese-built frigate? if that's possible, what if the Philippine Navy buys a frigate similar to the Naresuan class and then integrate Western-made weapons and equipment into the vessel just like what the Thais did to the Naresuan?

You can do that; its quite ingenious really. Chinese made (very cheap) naval hull (but of excellent quality) with western (American) missiles/hardware..... its a powerful combination no? lol |

On the contrary, Chinese products (military hardware/electronics/goods/clothing) etc are of equal or even superior quality than western counterparts. If not, why do you then find a huge cooperation between walmart and chinese factories; why do you find a huge importation of chinese made products into western ports as well as in asian ports (bangkok, manila, kuala lumpur, jaipur, calcutta, rangoon, jakarta, singapore , tokyo, okkaido etc)?? If i was of inferior quality no one would buy right? If it was of excellent-superior quality then everyone would buy. Yes, this is so- it explains the current economic boom in China. Face it my friend, CHINA is America's number one fear; and if China was of inferior tech compared to the USA, you wouldnt have a USA clamoring to increase its spending on PACOM; increased attention to Taiwan and a joint agreement with Japan to protect Taiwan from 'Chinese threat'; or the Thai-American Cobra Gold/Carat exercises to counter any 'northern dragon' threats. eh? Its best to be friends with the 'possible enemy' before he strikes...get as much from him so as when the time comes; you will have already known his weak points; or improve what he/she made. Understand this tactic? I hope our ASEAN brothers do not think Thailand is going to be a Chinese ally; on the contrary, they are our number one threat, second are Malaysia. But one needs to use different tactics to learn more about your so called 'enemy'. No? Cheers. |

SIRIKITTONG: thank you for answering my question. at least you Thais know how to help improve the status of your Armed Forces through ingenuity. well anyway, how come Thailand is purchasing more Chinese-made weapons and equipment than Western or Russian made ones? is it because the Chinese made ones are cheaper compared to their Western and Russian counterparts? also, how are you able to come across the Philippine Defense Forces Forum? :thumb: again, on behalf of my comrades, we welcome you to the forum!

We purchase more Chinese made products because Chinese military hardware are of Russian designs, yet improved. Added to this, Chinese military hardware are extremely lower in price compared to western hardware; which are of equal quality. Look at the new Chinese J-10 air superiority fighter; its a copy of design and ability to the Lockhead and Martine's F-16, Russian Mig-29 and the Eurofighter. So effective is the J-10 fighter that Pakistan, Iran and some Arab countries have already ordered these designs. I personally would like it if the RTAF would purchase at least 2 squadrons worth of these J-10 fighters. Maybe the Philippine Air Force should discuss this with China; these fighters are being sold at 7-10 million a piece. Its something the Philippines can afford; and given, you need more advanced fighters for both internal/external threats. No? ![]() ![]()

but what if China is the one that poses a serious threat to your country? will you still consider buying arms from that same country that is threatening your existence as an independent state? ![]() at least, Thailand is not involved in a territorial dispute. the Philippines and China have long been fighting for ownership of the Spratly Islands. like what i said in my earlier posts, i would rather buy Russian than buy Chinese.

I seriously doubt that China is going to take over the independency of the Philippines, my friend. As a businessman and as a frequent visitor to the Philippines, I can attest the increased trade and bilateral talks between the Philippines and China. This year alone, trade with the Philippines and China have grown compared to the stats of the past. China is increasing its influence in ASEAN as well as in South Asia, of course. By buying Chinese miliary hardware, you would entrench and increase friendship between the Philippines and China, no? Plus, the Beijing government looks friendly to Manila, there are many influential chinese-filipinos that make policy eh,? I do not argue that China is a 'threat', but I think that it is best to befriend the dragon at the time being and build up an effective defense; at least this way, if the dragon ever decides to bite..one can bite back. NO? Buying chinese..you WILL get more at a cheaper price. Buying American and western..you will get less for a more expensive price.
