"My impression on Chinese military hardware? I believe that the PLAN/PLA/PLAAF crafts are of superb quality. I have personally seen Chinese military hardware and am quite impressed. Their hardware are cheaper compared to western counterparts, but of equal if even superior quality. "[/B

you sound like a salesman friend. how can u explain why china is outsourcing its defence needs for warships and aircraft if as u have said its superior than its western counterparts. open your eyes man. maybe we can say that its ok nut cannot be superior.

On the contrary, Chinese products (military hardware/electronics/goods/clothing) etc are of equal or even superior quality than western counterparts. If not, why do you then find a huge cooperation between walmart and chinese factories; why do you find a huge importation of chinese made products into western ports as well as in asian ports (bangkok, manila, kuala lumpur, jaipur, calcutta, rangoon, jakarta, singapore , tokyo, okkaido etc)?? If i was of inferior quality no one would buy right? If it was of excellent-superior quality then everyone would buy. Yes, this is so- it explains the current economic boom in China.

Face it my friend, CHINA is America's number one fear; and if China was of inferior tech compared to the USA, you wouldnt have a USA clamoring to increase its spending on PACOM; increased attention to Taiwan and a joint agreement with Japan to protect Taiwan from 'Chinese threat'; or the Thai-American Cobra Gold/Carat exercises to counter any 'northern dragon' threats. eh?

Its best to be friends with the 'possible enemy' before he strikes...get as much from him so as when the time comes; you will have already known his weak points; or improve what he/she made.

Understand this tactic?

I hope our ASEAN brothers do not think Thailand is going to be a Chinese ally; on the contrary, they are our number one threat, second are Malaysia. But one needs to use different tactics to learn more about your so called 'enemy'. No?

Cheers.

Hmmmm... dejavu...!!!

How about a counter-terrorism excersice with the Royal Thai Navy SEALs and the Philippine Navy SEALs?

According to the "Encyclopedia of World's Special Forces," that the RTN SEALs have one of the toughest training in the SEA region. And the Philippine Navy SWAG has a 80-90 percent dropped-out rate.

I'm sure the RTN Seals and Phil SWAG could learn from each other from dealing with terrorisms and insurgents.

In fact it is an avid possibility. Our seals do the same things with the US Seals as well as with the Singas in Carat Gold 2005. Since Philippines is also a participant, there are times when cooperation of both our troops are witnessed. However, we should definitely indulge more cooperation on counter insurgency/terrorism practices.

Definitely! And not just our frogs but also our army and marine boys. Wouldn't it be nice to let our Scout Rangers buddy it up with the Thai Rangers?

Believe me, many of our own want participation; so far the IN/SN and the RTN have been minimal in success with anti-piracy activities; maybe its time to bring the PN into the situation.

Thai was ally of the Imperial Japan during WW2, when Japan was on a losing side.
Thai switched to the allies against japan...

very, very interesting....

We had our reasons for siding with Japan, my friend. As you know, Thailand or as we were known before, Siam was the hegemonic power of continental south east asia, our territories stretche beyond modern day Thailand, but also included Laos, Cambodia and parts of peninuslar malaysia. We lost our territories to the French by the Siamese-Franco Treaty, which gave France control of Siem Reap and Angkor provinces (Cambodia) as well as control of Viengchang and Luang Prabang provinces (Laos).

During the 1930s, the government of Siam changed from absolute monarchy to a military dictatorship, as it was common in those days.

Thai nationalism was uber evident in those times and most of the Thai citizens wishe dto reclaim our lossed provinces to the European imperialists, such as France and Britain; hence most of our government sided with Imperial Japan.
Siding with Japan, we recieved naval, air and land equipment, which we used aggressively against the French government in french indochina; we regained some parts of laos and cambodia before Japan stepped in and took 'temporary' power of Thailand.

It was then that we knew that Japan did not care for a free Thailand, but only cared for us as a pawn and slave state. This is when our sided switched and when the allies were winning, we reverted sides and fought the Japanese aggressively.

Remember my friend, our actions in world war two, were primarly aimed to regain our lost provinces. Provinces that till to this day are still under control of 'Laos' and 'Cambodia' and 'Malaysia'. :rifle: :salute:

dont forget, thailand also have interest in the spratley island and your navy even fire at the vietnamese sometime during the mid or late 1980's...so that is why i believed that history will repeat itself. if you can't beat them you double cross your neighbour.

Anyway Ex-Thamal is doing quite well this year between Thailand and Malaysian air force. I was in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday till Sunday for a short break/shopping and i read their local newspaper about the exercise, it's a once every 2 year and this year it was in Thailand. :specool:

Our interest in the Spratleys is mere cautious. We have no claims; as the sprats are primarily a debacle between PRC, Vietnam, RP, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei.

Our naval territoriality does not stretch that far east to include the spratleys, nor do we intend to lay claim in the region.

As for the Vietnamese-Thai naval clashes. Well you of all people should know that during the 1980s, particuarly 1984, there was an undeclared war between Thailand and Cambodia-Vietnam. Constant air sorties were evident as well as RTAF marines pouring into the cambodian countryside to clear out Vietnamese gun and troop emplacements. Our forces did not limit only to air and land; our naval superiority to the VN was evident as our ships enganged VN vessels when possible (speically when they were in our territoriality sphere). Sometimes, some ships chased VN ships near the spratleys, but never claimed the region.

Yes, relations between Thailand and Vietnam are somewhat warm; but our navy maintains a force in our eastern naval command zone if ever the VN enters ur waters again.

Spider, Im supposed you didnt input more on this; Singapore was quite the 'ally' during this time period. lol.

:armycheers: :aberet: :salute:

How was your visit to Kuala Lumpur?
I hope it wasnt too bad. Nice places over there.
I personally did not like my official visit to KL couple of years back; RMN male officers are sexist piggs. I had my experiences of 'roughness' with them.
I'll give it to you straight; I do not trust Malaysian Navy. Not one drop. :sniper:

well like Bangkok and Hatyai, KL is nice, the people are polite, but the Cab driver suck big time...they'll try to cheat. Anyway it's a change, for the 1st time i took the train from the usual, Bus or drive a car/van (less tiring and more sight-seeing).

BKK is nice, people is polite, and i like the show too...never had anything like it in Singapore...i'd like to go to other part of thailand sometime....like the malaysian taxi driver; i have a similar problem with thais, i guest in many countries transport industry tend to have similar problem, cheating. like the one i had a problem with the tuk-tuk driver...all i need is to go from point A to Point B and he bring us from shop to shop hoping that i buy something. or the river boat...they charge one european guy 1000 bath, although they charge me and my friends less we're still suspicious.

i've not been around that much or as much as i like as i dont print money just Malaysia, Thailand (Hatyai...drive with friends from singapore thru malaysia and ends at Hatyai, BKK only), Indonesia (Batam, Bali), Australia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey (i get to go both the east and western part), Israel (and Jerusalem).

i always claim to be a non-military man but in a country like ours the men are actually either a military, a policeman or a civil defence personnel...my country is very strict with secret if you know what i mean so whatever news i have is only from the various media...

lolll Spider!! You make me blush about that 'incident' :drunk:  Yes that is true that our tuk tuk drivers do that. LOL. Its their tactic in getting more 'sides' you know. =P I mean, if you think about it, the kind of living they go through, it saddens me.

Lol. thats true tho, how they cheat on the farangdangwai lol. They didnt cheat on you because you're Singaporean, and probably thought you were just Thai-Chinese. :mademyd: hahaha!

Wow, buddy. You've been everywhere havent you? Even Indonesia?

As for SG, I've been to your country many times. Boy, I love SG. One thing that I will never forget about SG is that it is so clean! until you hit Little India..then it gets a bit..lol! but I like the markets in Little India too; its just like the markets in rural parts of Thailand =p

I like the skyscrapers of SG! Very much like ours in BKK.

Thanks for the fun chat, Spidy.

Always your thai friend,
Sirikit
