Another question. Besides the RHIB does our Naval SpecOps also have Fast Insertion Crafts like what the SBS have? Which of the two is better delivery vehicle?

I did ask once if we have our own Special Boat Units that could support SOG units.

Our PN has the CB90. Not sure if that was use for evaluation purpose only.

Tourist arrivals increase by 17% in 2005

THE number of foreign tourists who visited the country increased by 17 percent last year or 393,600 more than the number of foreigners who arrived in 2004.

Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. said a total of 2.6 million foreign tourists arrived in 2005, while 2.26 million foreigners visited the country in 2004.

"What is evident is that there was significant increase in the number of foreigners who visited us last year, which is an encouraging sign that the confidence of the international community in our country remains strong and vibrant," Fernandez said.

The Department of Tourism expects some 2.8 million to 3 million foreign tourists to arrive this year.

That is why we need more of those PKMs and Cyclone vessels to ensure the tourists of their security. As we all know, our beach resorts are their favorite destination.

The purchase of more attack choppers, on the other hand, will help the ground troops secure areas other than these beaches.

Let's not forget that the AFP modernization depends on the performance of the economy. Tourism is one of it.

Tourism also provides our folks job opportunities and prevent them from joining the rebellion.

The Chief Executive said that with increased funding for the AFP modernization program following the full implementation of the Reformed Value Added (RVAT) Law, the capability of the military to fight terrorism will be greatly enhanced.

The AFP, she said, is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the additional taxes generated by the RVAT. "This is in recognition of the life you offer to defend and keep our democracy," she added.

Last month, the President released P5 billion for the AFP modernization program, including P1 billion for the government housing project for soldiers.

Looks like they will be put on a test.

Boracay to host ASEAN economic ministers’ meet

THE SOUTHERN BEAT By Rolly Espina
The Philippine Star 05/09/2006

All is set for the May 14-16 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Economic Ministers’ meet in Boracay, Aklan.

Of course, that presents a challenging security problem, but the Boracay police led by Superintendent Jeselito Nicodemus, assures that the island resort is ready to guarantee the safety of the economic ministers.

Actually, some 30 economic ministers are expected to arrive for the event.

But that does not mean that they are the only ones who will be around for the meet. They are expected to bring along their families and staffers.

This means Boracay will be filled again with foreign guests. And the security will be nightmarish although local police officers said they are prepared to cope with the problem of ensuring the safety of the foreign guests and their companions.

Among the economic ministers who will attend the Boracay meet will be those from Southeast Asia as well as South Korea, the United States, People’s Republic of China, and the European Union.

Nicodemus said the chief of the Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office had discussed the security preparations for the ministers’ arrival.

The Coast Guard and the PNP are guarding the Caticlan jetty, the jump-off point to the island.

Nicodemus said more policemen will be deployed to secure bars, restaurants, and hotels on the island to ensure the safety of the economic ministers.

Aklan Gov. Catalino Marquez finds this event a crowning glory for Boracay which has gained worldwide fame as the best tourist resort in Western Visayas and in the entire country.

With such a historic meet held in Boracay, there will be no more need for a major tourism marketing for the island paradise.

I told you Flipzi, they need TF Stingray over there. With that security nightmare, your proposed new TF might be needed there too.
