Your very welcome, commando. PMA has always enjoyed great respect from Thai military men and officers that have graduated in its honorable halls. PMA was the closest thing in Asia to a 'West Point' decades ago, and is still is.

In his book, At Ease: Stories I Tell to Friends (My father gifted me with a hardbound edition), Eisenhower recounts an incident that occurred when he was an upperclassman at West Point. It was the custom in those days for Plebes to be “hazed” or “crawled” . One day, Eisenhower recounts, a harassed Plebe, scurrying to obey orders given to him by another upperclassman, running into Eisenhower. The Plebe fell to the ground. Eisenhower writes that he used “all the sarcasm and scorn I could muster...,” and asked the guy what he had done before coming to the Point. “You look like a barber,” he told the cowering Plebe. “He stood up,” Eisenhower writes, “said softly, ‘I was a barber, sir.’ I didn’t have sense to apologize to him on the spot...I just turned my head and went to my tent where my roommate, P.A. Hodgson, was sitting. I looked at him and said, ‘P.A., I’m never going to crawl another Plebe as long as I live...I’ve just done something that was stupid and unforgivable. I managed to make a man ashamed of the work he did to earn a living.” ...and Abat looked like a master sargeant... |

I've seen the new uniform up close and personal: it ROTS. It doesn't even look at all martial; in fact the guys look like chauffeurs all in a line. Dress uniforms are useless in the bush, but if you have to wear them on parade, they have to be both impressive and intimidating. I was neither impressed nor intimidated. Point of note: Rayadillo is nothing more than an adaptation of Spanish tropical uniform which, if you would think of it, was a functional set intended to keep cazadores comfortable in hot weather. Rayadillo was loose and yet presentable especially as a walking-out uniform. The link below has details about rayadillo: http://www.balagan.org.uk/war/1909/gaming.htm ![]() The new PMA uniform is not rayadillo; it's not even cotton duck. It's just a cheap polyester "nationalist" trick. All of Asia's military academies have uniforms based on foreign designs. The Japanese and Koreans have theirs based on the French, the Malaysians and Singaporeans, on the British; the Indonesians on the Dutch; the Chinese on the Germans. Like what they guy said, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. |

Uniforms reflects the character of every individual who wears it. Good uniforms uplifts morale. So why replace a simplier one whereby most people say, "Its their Trademark". TATAK NA YAN. :thumb: |

:aberet: |
