Bringing an old seaplane into service is doable as proven by Iren Dornier who put a museum-display Do24ATT back into flying condition and flew it around the world for UNICEF and now operates it for a special charter service of SeaAir.

Though if we are to get a flying boat/floatplane for SAR or MPA duties, the best option would be to buy from either Shinn Meiwa, Beriev, Bombardier or Dornier, who makes them here:

Restoration is impractical if the cost exceeds that of a brand new seaplane for SAR and MPA. But if the purpose of the restoration is historical like what Dornier did to its Do24ATT, then cost is not an issue.

If the airframe is still mostly usable, then a simple engine change and avionics upgrades could do the trick.

The Philippines do need seaplanes, no question about it.

Maybe Dornier could offer the PAF a good deal.

wow, why did the PAF neglect this plane?

this could be very useful during the search of the s211 pilots in palawan and could have rescued them because this can land in the ocean :armyeek:
