Sweden is retiring its last two NORRKOPING class fast attack boats. I'm of the opinion that the Philippines can emulate Sweden's strategy of using small but powerfully armed attack boats for hit and run attacks on larger ships. Two Norrkopings patrolling the Spratlys can give the Chinese the jitters. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Armament: 1x 57 mm Bofors Autocannon 2 - 4x SAAB Rb 15 SSM 6x 21" Torpedo Tubes |

Who wouldn't? The RBS 15 is not exactly a second-rate antiship missile, lesser known than the Harpoon or Exocet but equal in performance. |

i have long been advocating the purchase of surplus missile boats and missile-armed fast attack crafts by the Philippine Navy. the Norrkoping class FACs are very capable vessels and will surely boost the anti-surface warfare capabilities of the Philippine Navy if ever it decides to buy some of them from the Swedish Navy. aside from the Norrkoping class FACs, here are other surplus missile boats and missile-armed FACs that are available for sale to other navies, including the PN: * South African Navy's Jan Smuts (Minister/Warrior/Reshev/Sa'ar 4) class FACs: ![]() ![]() Specifications: Displacement: 450 tons full load Dimensions: 58.1 x 7.6 x 2.6 meters (190.5 x 25 x 8.5 feet) Propulsion: 4 diesels, 4 shafts, 14,400 bhp, 32 knots Crew: 47 Radar: THD-1040 air/surf search Armament: 6 Skorpioen (Gabriel II) SSM, 2 76 mm OTO, 2 20 mm, 2 12.7 mm MG * German Tiger (S41) class missile boats ![]() ![]() Specifications: Displacement: 264 tons full load Dimensions: 47 x 7.1 x 2.66 meters (154 x 23 x 7 feet) Propulsion: 4 diesels, 4 shafts, 12,000 bhp, 36 knots Crew: 30 Radar: Triton-G air/surface search Fire Control: Castor-CSF weapons control EW: DR2000 intercept, chaff Armament: 4 MM38 Exocet SSM, 1 76 mm OTO DP, 1 40 mm AA * Greek Combattante II class missile and torpedo boats Specifications: ![]() Displacement: 255 tons Dimensions: 47 x 7.1 x 2.5 meters (154 x 23 x 8 feet) Propulsion: 4 diesels, 4 shafts, 12,000 bhp, 36.5 knots Crew: 40 Radar: Triton air/surf search Fire Control: Castor-II Armament: 4 MM38 Exocet SSM, 2 dual 35 mm AA, 2 21 inch torpedo tubes * Israeli Sa'ar 4 class missile boats ![]() ![]() Displacement: 450 tons Dimensions: 58.1 x 7.62 x 2.4 meters (190.5 x 25 x 8 feet) Propulsion: 4 diesels, 4 shafts, 10,680 bhp, 32 knots Crew: 45 Radar: TH-1 1040 air/surf search Fire Control: RTN-10X EW: MN-53 intercept, various intercept arrays, multiple RLs Armament: 2-4 Harpoon SSM, 6-8 Gabriel SSM, 1-2 76 mm OTO DP, 1 20 mm Phalanx CIWS, 2 20 mm, 4 12.7 mm MG |

if these are the last two norrkopings to be retired, what happened to the other 10, where they sold to other countries or scrapped by the Swedish? of all the boats shown in this thread, ts the norrkoping that i can consider the best, i hope the government gives this suggestion serious thought. |

If the Swedes are consistent, they must have chopped those other boats into scrap just like what they did to the retired Viggens. |

Tormentor: you mean the Swedes would rather have these Norrkoping (Spica II) class FACs go under the shredder than sell them to countries like the Philippines?

Just maybe. We don't know what happened to the ten other boats that were retired before these two. |
