The government should really develop Pagasa into a thriving and growing municipality. Also we must bolster our military presence to insure adequate protection for our civilians living there. And the Congress should make any visit to the KIG in the West Philippine Sea an official one, not an unofficial one. |

Sure it was nice of them to visit but if you ask me so what's next are you going to push for boost the Defense of our country or not? or push for a more hard approach to china ? or just passing it to the UN and like a poor Filipino farmer fighting a rich powerful landlord (China) but instead of land reform a bullet in you head and death to your whole kin which will highly possibly happen to us so what just a visit and giving a flag? Man Filipino never learn can somebody say Pacific War and ask Our beloved tongressman what happen to us in that said part of Human history? Look before you guys go medieval on me am Just saying that this topical Filipino thing comrades issue is hot resume shining time and when it dies no one give a damn about until something happens and this just a new form of many examples of it. lets change less on word and more on action and we should focus on our country both internal and external regardless if its a hot issue or not, Not just to get points for the voters or make your resume shine...... Doing the Right things sometimes get you both and more..... |

Spratly Islands row: Philippine trip riles China 21 July 2011 Last updated at 07:54 China says the Philippines infringed its sovereignty on Wednesday by sending a delegation of politicians to a disputed island in the South China Sea. Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said China had "indisputable sovereignty" over the island, in the Spratlys chain. A group of Philippine congressmen had flown to Pagasa island on Wednesday and declared it Philippine territory. The Spratly Islands are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan. The Spratly dispute is part of a larger territorial row, which also involves Brunei and Malaysia. The regional grouping Asean (Association of South East Asian Nations) is currently meeting in Bali, where talks have focused on framing guidelines for resolving the dispute. Tension has been growing this year, with China making a series of tough statements warning off Vietnam and the Philippines. "China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and their surrounding waters," said Mr Ma. "The move of the Philippine side seriously infringed China's territorial sovereignty." The Philippine congressmen landed on Pagasa island, the only island in the Spratlys populated by Filipinos, and sang the national anthem with residents. Pagasa, also known as Tithu island, lies about 480km (300 miles) west of the western Philippine province of Palawan. It has an airstrip, a military base and a small town hall, and is occupied by about 60 civilians. The Spratly Islands lie in an area thought to be rich in oil and gas. The region also has vital shipping routes. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-14230708 |

The Philippine Govt. should also look into other sources and adapt other acquisition plans along side the US Aid and acquisition Modernization Plans in case the US Hesitates arming Philippines with proper Military Hardware. The Philippine Government, DND/ AFP should plan and set up a special TASK FORCE fully Modern equipped and armed to the teeth composed of PN/PAF/PM that will Only CONCENTRATE and PROTECT the Country and territories against EXTERNAL THREATS or AGGRESSIONS. "HIGH PRIORITY" WISH LIST; like for example "TASK FORCE JUAN" that we should DO and Acquire ASAP! While AFP Modernizations are on going... AT LEAST; for PN WPS Fleet (2)- Missile Frigates (1)- Missile Destroyer (4)- Missile/ASW Corvettes (1)- MRV (4)- MPACs Frigates, Destroyers, MRV and Corvettes and armaments can be acquired through $2B. USD SK Credit facility. -(separate from US acquisition plans) for PAF (6)- Eurofighter TYPHOON or Dassault RAFALE (Special Elite Squadron) to be called Philippine Black Eagle Squadron -(separate from US acquisition plans) - to dominate Air Superiority Capability among Neighbours including CHINA. (6)- PZL Sokol W-3WA (armed version) for MRV deployment and others. (2)- P-3 Orions w/ASW capabilities. (2)- MQ-1A Predators (w/ armed options) -can be used as a cheaper option for Maritime Surveillance/ Reconnaissance and classified Offensive Missions. The Philippine Govt. needs to give Priority and to spend in order for this plan to become a reality... |

Manila: Filipino soldiers are ready to defend territory claimed by the country in the disputed Spratly Archipelago in the South China Sea, in the event of attacks by other claimants. "Of course, we will fight. We were assigned here so we will do our job," said Ensign Conrado Arcellana, commander of the Philippines' Kalayaan Island Group (KIG), an eight-island chain in the Spratly Archipelago. Arcellan was responding to a question posed by the Inquirer, which asked if Philippine forces were ready for a full-blown conflict in the disputed area. Philippine forces stationed on the island chain have 20-millimetre and 40-millimetre anti-aircraft guns and bunkers, he said. Congressman Walden Bello said the country would not take any attack "sitting down". Bellow made the comments during a visit by lawmakers, businessmen and reporters to the island chain on Wednesday. The Philippine Air Force visits the country's markers on the island chain at least twice a month. The Air Force has designated 12 patrol routes around the territories claimed by the Philippines in the Spratly Archipelago. Filipino fishermen also act as informants for Philippine authorities stationed on the island. Lieutenant-General Juancho Sabban, head of the military's Western Command, said the government must erect a wharf on the eight-island chain, buy jet fighters, and establish more naval stations in nearby Palawan. "Now that we have the West Philippine Sea conflict, it is important to upgrade our military capabilities at KIG," Bello said in a television interview. Proposed infrastructure development includes the refurbishment of an airstrip built in 1975, Bello said. He added that all the proposals will encourage economic activity while strengthening the island's defences. http://gulfnews.com/news/world/philippines...-chain-1.841360 |

I have to agree. To have a successful alliance, most of the member nations should at least share a similar system of government. Given that there's a communist member, a couple of dictatorships, and even monarchy, mixed in with different varieties of democratic governments, it would be difficult to create and sustain such an alliance. Unless, of course, all member nations agree first that the PRC is the greatest threat to ASEAN. |
