its is better to have a south east asian nations treaty. like nato. every member that have a military conflict with non-member nation will have a mandatory help from its co-member. i think its time to have a treaty like that. because all many countries in southeast asia where bullied by china. |

They are truly crazy! If you think about it, we are the only ones with under developed facilities, structures, island defences etc., compared to them and other claimants and yet every time we plan something to develop the area or anything like this.. they always make it a big deal!!! PROTEST MY AS# IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THEY ARE AFRAID OF US FORTIFYING OUR CLAIM AND ARE THE REAL TRUE OWNERS OF KIG! ![]() "What's OURS IS OURS!" They don't want to take these matters to the UN because it will be a sure LOST for them.... |

There used to be SEATO. Disbanded in 1977. Right now it seems too impossible to reactivate it, and if ever it should be reorganized with different members. From the recent ASEAN meeting, even indonesia is not totally supportive with the philippines and vietnam. |

It seems like china is too nervous about their claims in spratly islands and are now relying in psychological warfare using their military as their asset to control WPS. They know they didn't have any hard evidence to support their claims. If we can all notice, they only started to be really aggressive on their claims when the united states left subic and clark. Even after their massacre of 60 vietnamese sailors in 1988, they couldnt even come close to mischief reef and within the philippines' territorial 200 km EEZ. So if they were really that 100% sure about their claims, then they should have been pushing their claims long before the US military left the philippines. China is indeed a piece of crap and big bully. Screw china! |

Solon: Long neglected Pinoys on Spratlys need help 07/21/2011 | 10:24 AM Some 200 Filipinos living on a portion of the controversial Spratly Islands have been “long neglected" and need assistance especially in terms of defense and economic infrastructure, a lawmaker who visited the area recently said. Akbayan Rep. Walden Bello said the military capabilities at the Kalayaan Islands – a part of the Spratlys being claimed by the Philippines – need to be upgraded. “We have long neglected our Naval forces and now that we have the West Philippine Sea conflict, it is important to upgrade our military capabilities there," he told GMA News Online in a phone interview Wednesday night. Bello and three other congressmen flew to the Pag-asa Island on Wednesday morning, supposedly to support the Philippine government’s territorial claim over the area. The lawmakers proceeded with the trip despite opposition from the Chinese government and the House leadership. The party-list congressman said their contingent donated a new Philippine flag and raised it in the area to signify that it is Philippine territory. The Spratlys, a group of islets in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) and believed to be rich in oil and gas deposits, are being claimed in whole or in part by China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines. Medical, social help Bello said the residents of the island, which is a part of Palawan province, also need medical assistance. “They have no medical personnel. If somebody gets really sick, they have to ride a boat for 10 days to and from the island to get to mainland Palawan," he said. The island also does not have any elementary school for the children there, he added. The lawmaker likewise said that resident need a good harbor to encourage the rise of economic activities there. “When the budget process comes, we will find ways to release funds so that we can have fishing infrastructure there," he said. Bello further said that their trip “should be a lesson to China" to “respect the separation of powers in the Philippines." “The Chinese should stop bullying us. Their opposition to our visit here was a case of immature diplomacy. I expected more from them," he said. Chinese Embassy in Manila spokesperson Ethan Sun earlier said that the lawmakers' visit “goes against the spirit" of the Declaration of Conduct of Parties to the South China Sea. — LBG, GMA News http://www.gmanews.tv/story/226934/nation/...atlys-need-help We must indeed improve the living conditions of the Filipinos there. As for Sun's statement, they are the ones doing acts that go against the spirit of the Declaration of Conduct of Parties to the West Philippine Sea. They must stop building illegal structures. They must dismantle the structures they built in the Mischief Reef. They should stop bullying us. |

Is it true that the congressman of the district where Pag-asa is under did not accompany the Akbayan congressmen on this visit?

Why A War Between China And Vietnam Is Inevitable Excerpts: Now Much to China's dismay, the South China Sea dispute has become an open-house party: the US is invited by many to host the show, and even China's arch rival India will tag along. The biggest allure for the party is oil, 7.5 billion barrels of the liquid gold deposited in the region---well-exceeding 80 percent of the entire Saudi kingdoms' reserves, according to Chinese estimates. The regional mess proves Beijing's policy of "shelving disputes and developing jointly" is a total failure. In Territorial Disputes, sovereignty is a fiat currency solely backed by the economic and military might. Otherwise it's simply bluff. Diplomacy and Economic ties alone will never win China the south China sea. To solve the territorial dispute, Sino-Vietnamese war seems inevitable. It's also the most cost-effective way for China to sort out the mess once and for all. The only thing that matters right now is the timing and how the US will factor in this event. We are going to look into the dynamics how this volcano is going to erupt: Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/sino-vietna...7#ixzz1SjbfiKV6 --------------- Read the comments as well. Lalo lang ako napapa believe sa mga Vietnamese. We should follow their example. |
