Land-based defense systems would be rather good at this point in time... |

The Chinese might continue the bullying. There is no declaration of war yet between the contesting parties of the islands. Dropping bombs and air bombardment would be in gross violation of the Geneva Conference and the United Nations under international law. |

I myself doesnt believe that china will attack the philippines nor it's Pagasa island. It's highly possible though, they might attack some vietnamese claimed islands with military outposts. But i agree that china will press it's luck to pressure the philippines to give up it's other reefs, islands, and shoals, long before the new military hardwares ever arrive. |

As we can clearly see, China has always considered the US intervention in the attacks. They also consider heavily the restraint the US will take in case it is confronted by their naval force. They believe that when they have already taken the position, the US cant do anything because it will hesitate to react. THE BEST THING HERE IS TO REALLY MAKE THE U.S. BUILD A PERMANENT BASE IN THE PHILIPPINES. The leasing of Clark will be an effective strategy. Perhaps the joint RP-US radar facility in Pag-Asa would be a good strategy. Also, the world can react by dumping all Chinese exports and severing trade relations with China. The article understated the line when it used the word bully. It should have been, "China, the Greedy Big Bad Bully". The Philippines should now consider expediting the purchase of bombers and MRFs to shoot down Chinese jets and re-bomb the islands that were just planted with Chinese soldiers. We also need to get the the anti-ship missile ammos to sink those Chinese ships. The US might hesitate to react on the Spratly's but it will surely act when the mainland is attacked. For now it is high time we build the capacity to confront the Greedy Big Bad Bully in the Spratly's militarily. We can count on an effective missile defense system to counter their military number. This includes land-based SAMs and SSMs. This will be complemented by airborne and seaborne SAMs and SSMs.

They are trying to scare us by making us see their military capability like the what article said. They are heavily considering the Sun Tzu strategy of winning the war without fighting, which includes subduing its opponents with scare tactics. We will do the same but this time we will mean it. Aside from the military action, we will consider economic and other means to crush China. China as you see depends on export a lot. They have a huge population but these are served by their local companies already. Food, services, technology. All are served by Chinese. It's only a lesser slice of the pie that the foreign companies are serving the Chinese locals. Most are diluted in partnerships with the local Chinese counterparts. So, many dont depend on China but rather China depends on the world to sustain their needs. When the exports and tourism are dumped by other countries, the jobless rate in China will severely go up. We don't depend on China too. China depend on us for their exports and their immigrants here. We can as well solidify our collaboration with Taiwan. Strengthening trade relations and cooperation on military development as well as agriculture and industrial. As for the military confrontation, let's make it a practice run for our armed forces. :thumb: Remember, the heroism of air force pilots during World War 2. Remember, the heroism of our soldiers too!

Eventually, we will need AEGIS-equipped ships like the Arleigh Burke. Japan has been building AEGIS ships effectively already. Weapons include Standard 3. |

^^I think the philippines should now totally support Taiwan's independence, and cancel it's One China policy if the chinese didnt stop bullying the philippines. Both Taiwan and the Philippines can now start their joint military training and sharing miltech w/ other information. This way, RP can now invite the taiwanese to have military training or use the philippine airspace for their airforce pilots' training. Perhaps, a joint venture between these 2 countries to build a naval base upnorth somewhere in Claveria or near the Babuyan islands, Batanes. Anyway, this philippine province upnorth could use some new foreign investments and develop further it's surroundings and needed infrastructures, and they should tap the taiwanese to help them. Meanwhile, i dont believe that the US would ever need another military base in the philippines. I think it's good enough for them to help RP to upgrade its military capabilities immediately. However, they can help the philippines as well to develop a naval base in palawan, and both countries can use it, give the americans some access such as for weapon reloading/rearming, repairs, and refueling. |

In my view, China's bullying is just to explore on how the US would react . It's too early yet to recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation as this might cause some complications and unnecessary repercussions on the issue of the Spratleys. Comes the time that the Chinese will squeeze our arms to capitulate with their demands and they will employ their military might to achieve it, promises of assistance from Australia and the US can be realized and they become the defensive. And that's the time we will be under the canopy of the Chinese and American confrontation. |

I would love to see Stealth bombers and Raptors sinking Chinese ships and shooting down Chinese jets.
