If only our over-posturing senators in 1991 did not vote out the US bases, then this thread wouldn't exist at all. If the US still have bases here, the Chinese would be tip-toeing and not trying to bully us at all. |

China is communist in name only. In reality it's a one party dictatorship practicing capitalism under a veneer of "communism". And I agree with you that the NPA is again being supported by China. We should break ties with the PRC and recognize Taiwan as the real representative of China. And China's economy is mostly export driven, thus it's fragile. If they start a war, their economy wouldn't be able to sustain it for long. |

there is that possibility because of the growing influence of China in global economy. This could also hurt our economy. Thats why our strategists need to make a very careful planning on this. China and US trade relations have improved dramatically in the past years and as we all know holds thrillion of dollars in US debt. Just as I said this is a big lesson for us. To me one of the best is we need to maintain the modernization and keep the PLAN at bay while doing psyops in the UN and world media. And still maintain whatever is left in trade relations to keep the economy going. But if shooting starts then we can just defend ourselves and show this to the world. We should refrain from being too agressive and maintain our posture and stand our ground. We have a weak military anyway to be agressive on them. [/QUOTE] Yes sir I agree with you, right now our economy is doing fairly we need to sustain it so peace & stability is primary importance for our business to grow any disruption due to security concern will surely wash away all our hard earned growth, China is now a giant we have no match with them in all aspect, what we can do is to prepare ourselves in case they are stupid enough to start some nonsense grabbing of our territory and start a possible all out war, we have allies incl.NATO they have also like NOKOR & Cuba so it will be big catastrophe almost WW3 but god forbid we don't like it we will all suffer for nothing. |

Yes indeed. Let's support Taiwan instead. Let's strengthen the MECO. We are not beholden to China in terms of export. China on the other hand is flooding the Philippines with low-quality products and illegal immigrants. It's about time we teach China a lesson. JUNK ALL PRODUCTS FROM CHINA! :thumb: The SouhtEast Asian nations and the world who cares for fair trade and fair treatment of neighboring countries should prefer US and European products as well as Japanese and South Korean products since these are of high quality. China is has just turned from a Big Bully into a Greedy Big Bad Bully. The world can teach China a lesson by junking all its exports and lessening trade with China. We can cripple China's economy by TRASHING OUT CHINA'S PRODUCTS!

US seeks to help defuse tensions in West Philippine Sea WASHINGTON—The United States said it will seek to help defuse tensions in the strategic and resource-rich West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) when it holds talks with China in Hawaii on Saturday. Tensions in the South China Sea have escalated in recent weeks, with the Philippines and Vietnam alarmed at what they say are increasingly aggressive actions by Beijing in the disputed waters. “The United States has no intention to fan the flames in the South China Sea and we have a very strong interest in the maintenance of peace and stability,” Kurt Campbell, the top US diplomat for East Asia, told reporters on Friday. He said he expected the West Philippine Sea disputes to be raised Saturday at a US-China meeting in Honolulu which is part of the two countries strategic and economic dialogue. He will attend the talks. “We’ve been very clear that the United States does not take a position on sovereignty issues,” said Campbell, the assistant secretary of state for East Asia and Pacific Affairs. “But we also have strong principles that are long-standing in the maintenance of freedom of navigation, and free and unimpeded legal commerce and the maintenance of peace and stability,” he said. “Those principles are long-standing and will continue, and we underscore them in all of our interactions in the Asia-Pacific region,” he added. “It is not our desire to see, as I said, these flames fanned. We want recent tensions to subside and cooler heads to prevail,” he said. Campbell said the US delegation will ask the Chinese “some specific questions” about “the direction of Chinese military developments” as well as sound them out on diplomacy with North Korea and Myanmar. http://globalnation.inquirer.net/4840/us-s...-philippine-sea |

^^ As usual, the Chinese would deny every accusation and would point the fingers at us and the Vietnamese. I also expect China to politely, but firmly insist that the US have no say in the issue. The USA should stand firm and contain the PRC while she's still manageable. With the impeding withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan, that should free up enough resources in case things heat up in the West Philippine Sea. |

CHINA'S BATTLEPLAN in disputed islands at West Philippine Sea http://www.china-defense-mashup.com/chinas...-china-sea.html 2011-01-01 (China Military News cited from asahi.com and written by KENJI MINEMURA) -- China is moving into regional bully mode. Its military has drawn up an internal tactical plan to seize control of islands in the South China Sea that are now under the effective control of other nations, sources said. ... The two main pillars of the policy are the use of bombers to weaken island defenses and a subsequent landing of troops using amphibious assault ships. ... Under the tactical plan, the Chinese Air Force, working in tandem with air combat units of the Navy, would stage surprise bombing runs over military ports and ships based at targeted islands. ... The plan calls for eliminating the enemy's combat capability over the course of about an hour and then begin landing troops using amphibious assault ships, such as the Kunlunshan, the biggest such vessel in the Chinese naval fleet. It has a displacement of 18,000 tons and can accommodate four helicopters on its deck. While the invasion was under way, the main units of the North China Sea Fleet and the East China Sea Fleet would take up positions to block U.S. aircraft carriers from approaching the island. ... A source with the Guangzhou Military Region who took part in the exercise said, "We were able to demonstrate that we had the ability to destroy a U.S. aircraft carrier." In early November, a live fire exercise involving about 1,800 Chinese Navy amphibious assault troops was conducted in an area ranging from Zhanjiang in Guangdong province to nearby Hainan island. The scenario for the exercise involved invading an island in the South China Sea now effectively controlled by another nation. Amphibious assault ships and tanks were used to land troops while countering electromagnetic interference and missiles fired by troops posing as the enemy. Unusually for the secretive Chinese military, the training exercise was conducted in front of 273 military attaches representing 75 nations, sending a clear message. According to Chinese government sources, China only effectively controls eight islands among those in the Spratly and Paracel islands in the South China Sea. Vietnam controls 28 islands, while the Philippines controls seven. One government source said, "Our aim is to gain an advantage in territorial negotiations by applying pressure through demonstrating to the various nations that we have the capability of taking back the islands at any time."
