China says will not use force in West Philippine Sea

BEIJINGChina said Tuesday it would not resort to the use of force in the tense West Philippine Sea (South China Sea), after its neighbors expressed concern about its more assertive maritime posture.
We will not resort to the use of force or the threat of force, foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters.
We hope relevant countries will do more for peace and stability in the region, Hong said.
Vietnam on Monday staged live-fire exercises following recent confrontations at sea with China which reignited a long-standing dispute over the sovereignty of two potentially oil-rich archipelagos, the Paracels and Spratlys.

US support, inaasahan na - Sen. Enrile

We are allied to the United States under the Mutual Defense Treaty and by history. They have occupied us since 1899. They came here in 1898 and then occupied us from that time after under Gen. Merrit, who was the first military governor of the Philippines, all the way to McNaught who was the last governor general. That was 1946," ayon kay Enrile.

Address Spratly Island to KALAYAAN ISLANDS, South China Sea to WESTERN PHILIPPINE SEA or Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas.

Enrile warns China vs showing Aggression toward Philippines
06-13-2011

Quote:

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile on Monday warned China against showing aggression toward the Philippines amid the worsening dispute of claimant countries over the Spratlys Islands.

"I would caution China in using or showing any sign of aggressiveness against the country," said Enrile on Monday. "If they will show they are using their very strong military capability to undermine the interest of a friendly neighbor, the world will raise their eyebrows."

He said the Philippines can invoke the RP-US Mutual Defense Treaty in case of a foreign attack.

"Any attack against the forces of either the US or the Philippines in the treaty area will mean an attack against the party to the Mutual Defense Treaty. So we can invoke the MDT," he said. [Click here for a list of the recent incidents in the territorial disputes.]

He explained that President Benigno Aquino III, as commander-in-chief, can invoke the MDT as an executive function. He noted, however, that it still depends on the United States whether it will involve itself in the issue.

But aside from the MDT, Enrile said the country can also invoke the Law of the Sea Convention or the Law of the Sea treaty to the United Nations if China violates the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Philippines.

"If they’re going to explore, if they are going to exploit, if they are going to gather any valuable materials in the area, harvest this in the area, then we can invoke [that]," he said.

The Senate president admitted, however, that the dispute over Spratlys probably will go on for a very long time, unless all claimant countries agree to let the International Court of Justice settle the matter.

"Eventually it has to be resolved somewhere. [But] only if they agree, the other parties," he said. - Kimberly Jane Tan/KBK, GMA News

Actually believe ako sa Paninindigan ng Albay Governor to rally us all and against China... and he is being interviewed this AM on AksyonTV Channel 41. We need a leader like him who has principles to lead us and believe in ourselves that the FILIPINOS CAN....

pero in reality, para tayong mga DUWAG ng magsabi yung iba na "HUWAG NATIN KALABANIN ang TSINA DAHIL MALAKAS SILA" ... that comment would sound as if you insulted mga early Filipino DATU na lumaban sa kastila and chinese invaders. Actually malakas na talaga ang China before our country was discovered by Magellan pero early Filipinos still fought...

Huwag tayo magpapaapi .... We all sing our National Anthem pero di naman nilalaman ang mga contents ng Lupang Hinirang.

Share ko lang itong Video report ng ABS CBN regarding PLAN vs Phil Navy

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/video/nation/06...-measure-chinas

it is reported that PLAN has around 120 surface combat ships against our PN. Do you think that PLAN will send all this 120 ships against us lang? I don't think so coz China has more Maritime borders with Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Russia.

Is China a fool throwing all its full force on us? If thats the case then I will make an military alliance with Russia, Japan and South Korea to provide us some naval support... So if in the event China will go on war against us and send ships then allies can capitalize weak maritime borders with our allies by start creeping on their maritime territories by even Russia, Japan and South Korea.. Now who is on the loosing side now?

Mga sir, hindi po kaduwagan na mag refrain tayo ng konti about this problem in Spratly, We need to upgrade our military and prepare for the worst, but in reality we should not encourage ourselves for war with China, with our current resources and capability we will suffer the most, in whole of Asia we are the lowest in growth for the past 20 years so our buffer is very low, in case of war we will be the most affected, the battlefield will be in our shores while China is miles away and probably won't be affected, even the mighty US sides on us, still we will still suffer, we have already seen the outcome of war and it is very scary as hell, Our meager growth will be negative so hunger will rise, businesses will flee, stock market will crash, our savings will be used to buy weapons, our rich and unpatriotic will migrate, our social services will rise but no budget for them..etc...etc. If we are to be attacked then we have no choice but to fight till death, but if there's a choice for a peaceful means then we should not shy away to have it.

This gives the Philippine Govt. some time to push through the modernization of the AFP. I hope they learn.

And as pointed out: China obviously does not interpret the harassing of other vessels and intrusions by jets and the firing from one of their frigates as a "use of force"...

:drunk:

Let us hope the Govt. does not sit back now thinking the US will always come to the rescue. If that is our attitude, then we may as well sell the RP to the US.

I agree with you Marschall! This is a wake up call, we should step up to the plate and do our part...
