those "fishing vessels" are really PLAN surveillance ships that check out the activities of other claimants of the Spratly Islands, most especially the Philippines. it was really odd to see "fishing vessels" to be equipped with the latest military gadgets and the crew armed to the teeth with high-powered weapons. the recent incident at the Spratlys is more than enough reason for the Philippines to start arming itself from external threats being posed by the Chicoms. the Chicoms or any country will not respect a country without any capability to, at least, fight back and do significant damage like the Philippines.

We should not let our guard down. Increase PN navy presence to our territorial water or those Chinese Bastard pretending to be a fisherman will claim again that is not belong to them. Chinese will eat us whole, if we never stay alert to any movement they want to do on our fishing grounds. |

RP, China, Vietnam to cooperate in Spratlys security MANILA (AFP) - China, the Philippines and Vietnam are to strengthen security cooperation in the Spratly islands after an apparent pirate attack left four Chinese dead there, the Philippine military chief said Friday. ''We have agreed that we will continue our direct communication in the area so that these problems... piracy, smuggling, transnational crimes... can be resolved,'' said military chief General Generosa Senga. Senga held talks with his Vietnamese and Chinese counterparts last week following an attack in late April in the Spratlys on a Chinese fishing vessel that left four crewmen dead and three wounded. Senga said an investigation had found that no Philippine government vessels were in the area and that the raid was ''apparently by pirates.'' Chinese press reports earlier said that the attackers were believed to have come from the Philippines. The Spratly Islands consist of more than 100 small islands or reefs in the South China Sea that are claimed partially or entirely by Brunei, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines. All claimants but Brunei have troops posted in parts of the islands. http://www.mb.com.ph/MAIN2006051964477.html |

If ever there will be future conflict that would escalate to confrontation involving the Spratleys, the war would not be between the claimants of the island. The expected war would be between the US and China, as the former has always maintain it's interest in Asia. The US cannot just allow to close it's eyes if the Asian giant would grab it using it's power over the less defensive claimants especially the Philippines. |

^ comrade, the US already answered that issue regarding the Spratlys dispute. the Yanks will not participate in any full-blown war in the Spratlys, INCLUDING THE ONE INVOLVING THE PHILIPPINES AND ANY ONE OF THE OTHER CLAIMANTS. the Americans will just let the Philippines be gobbled up alive by the PRC in a full-blown war in the Spratlys. pure and simple.

uhmmm... the AB-212ASW is actually the Italian copy (it was built by Agusta) of the Bell 212, better known to us as the UH-1N. the AB-212ASW is a rather "safer design" for naval use compared to the UH-1H or Bell 204/205 because of the former's twin engine safety. the AB-212ASW is primarily armed with Mk. 44 or Mk. 46 torpedoes but it can also be armed with two Sea Skua anti-ship missiles. |
