China denies 'intrusion' in Spratlys
02-Jun-11, 4:37 PM | Veronica Uy, InterAksyon.com

MANILA, Philippines - China on Thursday denied accusations its naval vessels have intruded into Philippine territory, and said the ship in question was a marine research ship engaged in studying the South China Sea.

“China holds a clear and consistent position on the South China Sea issue. The reported ‘incursion of Chinese ships’ is not true. It’s only China’s marine research ship conducting normal maritime research activities on the South China Sea,” the Chinese embassy said in a short statement issued a day after the Department of Foreign Affairs announced that it has summoned its top diplomat.

The DFA statement was released Wednesday, a day after it summoned the Chinese embassy’s charge d’affaires Bai Tian over the reported incursions of Chinese warships beyond the disputed Spratly Islands and well into Philippine territory between May 21 and 24.

China was reminded that the reported unloading of building materials, the erection of posts, and the placement of buoys on the breaker of the Iroquois (Amy Douglas) Bank is a violation of the 2002 ASEAN-China Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.

Iroquois (Amy Douglas) Bank, which is located southwest of Recto (Reed) Bank and east of Patag (Flat) Island, is within the Philippines’ 200 nautical miles Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), the DFA pointed out.

“The posts and buoy placed by the Chinese at the vicinity of Iroquois Bank are about 26 nautical miles east of Patag Island and 125 nautical miles from mainland Palawan,” the DFA said in its June 1 press statement.

Citing military reports, the DFA said the monitored ships included a China Marine Surveillance (CMS) vessel and other People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships.

For as long as the AFP as mandated by the Constitution which is to protect our people, to ensure the integrity of our territory and also to ensure the sovereignty of state and the minute they start to build structures or plant their markers and buoys on our territories, get some tugboats and start pulling the LT516 frm Sangley and LT504 from Pagasa and relocate it at Irouquis and Amy Douglas, part of the mandate is to Blow them up! and NOT to give them a chance to established what they want, just like what were doing before in the 1990's which is an effective way deterring them.. until FVR ordered the PN, PM to Stop doing that kind of operation...? THAT GAVE THEM A CHANCE and LESS to Worry TO OCCUPY "MISCHIEF REEF"

The best way for us to do, is for our Govt. to invite FOREIGN PRESS to expose and monitor the issue and for the whole World to see those LYING B_STARDS!
This is an OLD SCHOOL style on how to DEAL and Bring down a "BIG FISH"... To Expose!

We can just imagine what can happen if all the Countries will unite and just simply PRESSURE and apply a SANCTION on CHINA like an EMBARGO if something like a worst scenario happens, regarding these issues.. But in order to trigger this there will be sacrifices....

Chinese intrusions in PH-claimed parts of Spratlys ‘alarming,’ says Gazmin
By Dona Z. Pazzibugan

Quote:

MANILA, Philippines—Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin has decried as “alarming” the increased Chinese incursions into Philippine-claimed territory in the South China Sea.
He was particularly slighted that the latest intrusion occurred while Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie was in the country for an official visit last May 21 to 25.
“It’s alarming in the sense that the intrusions are increasing. They are staking claim on the areas where we do not have a presence. They want to hoist their flag so they can claim the area,” Gazmin said at a televised news forum sponsored by the Philippine Information Agency on Wednesday.
During their talks at the Department of National Defense building last May 23, Gazmin and Liang reassured each other that they were after a “peaceful resolution” of the Spratlys territorial dispute and that they would “avoid unilateral actions that would cause alarm.”
The DND and the Armed Forces of the Philippines belatedly learned that Chinese ships were spotted unloading an undetermined number of steel posts and a buoy in the vicinity of the Amy Douglas Bank on May 21 and May 24.
The Amy Douglas Bank is 125 nautical miles away from mainland Palawan, which is within the Philippines’ 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zone.
The military reported the intrusion on May 27.
Gazmin said he did not know about the incident while Liang was in the country. “Somehow I’m really affected because we have shown them our hospitality and we were talking properly. We agreed that all problems could be resolved. And yet while we’re talking, something was afoot elsewhere,” he said.
“We want to know if this was sanctioned by the leadership or if this was planned without the knowledge of the (Chinese defense) ministry. We have to make certain (if) this is known by the defense officials,” he went on.
Gazmin said he would take up the matter with Liang during the top-level Asia security forum in Singapore over the weekend.
“Given the chance I will,” he vowed, adding he would also raise the issue with his counterparts in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
“We have to respond diplomatically on this particular issue. The most we can do is file a diplomatic protest. That’s the most civilized thing to do at the moment,” he said.
Gazmin said they have been forced to focus on building up the military’s external defense capability.
“Because of the recent increased incursions and violation of territorial waters, we have to take a serious look into external defense. We’re now trying to mix internal security operations and territorial defense in our plan,” he said.
“Our option is a diplomatic protest. We are in no position to confront those intruding in our area because we don’t have the capability. That’s why we’re pursuing capability upgrade,” Gazmin also said.
AFP Chief of Staff Eduardo Oban Jr. said there have been “five to six” incidents of intrusions by the Chinese side so far since the start of the year.
He said they would increase patrols while working on acquiring radars for a more complete coast watch system to monitor the country’s territorial waters.
“We’ll have more frequent patrols,” Oban said at the news forum.
Asked what the military would do if the intrusions continued, Gazmin replied: “We will keep on filing diplomatic protests.”
Oban said fishermen discovered the steel posts and buoy, and dismantled them themselves before turning them over to the military.
Gazmin said President Aquino has been briefed about the incidents. He said the President would issue an executive order to beef up the defense of the country’s territorial waters through an inter-agency coordination on maritime security.
“We are on the verge of coming up with a capability upgrade of assets in the area to address these problems. We want to get assets to provide security in the disputed area,” he said.

thats what Im been saying, there they are now the chicoms are coming and we cannot do anything about it. as i have been writing on numerous occasions, we cannot always depend on the US for defense or disaster relief. we need to consolidate and upgrade our forces continously like a sovereign nation suppose to do. Relationship between China and US is getting closer. I say again, the US will not be able to help us on this issues. we are on our own and our government should think it this way. As a closest allies they will not even give us most of the logistics we need. Are we really this stupid? we have to stop begging and stand on our own feet. why not buy some used items from Taiwan.

Sir H,

Don't worry about the Uncle Sam they are just trying to play the game on what China is doing to us... Saying something they want us to hear, but doing something differently.

If the NEWS about the (8) WHEC's to be transferred to us within the next 5 years are TRUE....?! "I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!"- Lt.Col. Hannibal Smith US Army Special Forces :lollol:

All our Govt. DND, AFP, PN has to do is to plan and REFIT them (WHECs) with AS Radars, Sea RAMs and ASW Capabilities.

Seriously, you can just imagine how these can improve our Country's Security Coverage on Air and Surface Radars combined with Coast Watch Stations.

US I believe, even though we can see and say that we don't get that much Military hardware compared to our Neighbours, they just don't want us to burn or their main strategy against the dragon to be exposed, we play a big role! enough said. :nono:

^ sir AVB, if our AFP doesn't do anything right now, by the time the WHECs will be delivered, it will not be consigned to the PH government anymore but to China.

Don't worry! It will never come to that... I don't think they are that crazy...

Some analyst are right, our Country is too laid back with regards to our External SECURITY since after the MARCOS Govt. and the problem is our AFP now is different from the AFP before... I think "sa buong mundo, tayo lang ang ganito."

They are more on the "Do Nothing" Policy. :dunno:

WINNING: Not The Philippines

In May, two Filipino OV-10 aircraft flying off the west coast of Palawan Island (southwestern Philippines), reported they were buzzed by two "Mig type" fighters that were believed to be Chinese. Both China and the Philippines claim the nearby Spratly Islands. Less than a hundred kilometers northwest of Palawan is Reed Bank, where oil and natural gas has been discovered.

More of the article here.

-----

could it be possible that we had misidentified the PLAAF Su-27/Su-30MKKs as MiG-29s?

Quote:

No one admitted that their aircraft had buzzed the OV-10s off Palawan. The Chinese Navy does operate nine ton J-7s, which are based on the Russian MiG-21. But none of these aircraft are stationed within range of Reed Bank. The OV-10 pilots may have mistaken a Chinese Su-27, which is also a Russian design and could be mistaken for a MiG-29 at long distance (the two aircraft share a similar shape and design features). What was most alarming to most Filipinos was that the Philippines has no fighter jets, and nothing that could resist even the older J-7s.

Regarding the placement of markers by the chicoms, I strongly suggest that those markers are torn down and replaced ASAP by Philippine markers. By international law, if a country is able to show a continuous interest and some kind of physical control in a island, reef or other land item then over time the International bodies will rulle in favor of the current occupier whether it is justified or not.

The Japanese maintained proper control over a territory (Daiyoutai/Senkaku) for over 100 years, established markers, lighthouses, post offfice, conducted research and more in those islands and reefs. Prior to that the Chinese only claimed they had only "visited" the islands to pick herbs.

Legal Status of islands

In the end the Japanese claim won out. Burnt by this lesson, the Chinese are doing the same thing to the Spratleys that the Japanese did to the Senkakus. If we let time slide by doing nothing we will lose our lands.

I am willing to wager that a number of a media personalities, business leaders and political leaders have been bribed or blackmailed into allowing the Chinese to do what they are doing. I don't know of any true Pinoy whose blood would not boil at the thought of what the Chinese are doing.

Knowing that important individuals in our countries elite circles are compromised, it might be necessary for a group of real military LEADERS to take preemptive action on their own and fix the problems without waiting for sanction. If we can force this issue into a very visible and likely violent confrontation, it will espose the Chinese for what they are.

Blood will be spilled before it is over but the international press does not care about an issue unless blood is spilled. It must be newsworthy in todays 5 minute soundbites. Look at the Middle East. Until people bled the press did not pay much attention.

Further, this will give the Filipino people a cause to rally around the flag and hopefully be the catalyst of reviving our nation again. Moral, educational, spiritual, political and national. We need a common enemy external to ourselves so we can drop this bullshit tribal and greed mentality and get on track to taking our rightful place amongst the wealthy and powerful Asean and eventually first world nations.

You can argue my point all day but when the dust clears my points will bear the truth.

Regarding the OV-10 incident, one of the first things that should have been done is a Vis ID test given to the OV-10 pilots the minute they hit the ground as part of their debrief to try and ascertain if they knew the difference between different Migs and Sukhois prior to them talking to anyone or consulting any technical data.

This Vis ID test would be part of a very calculated and thorough debrief. I would videotape the entire debrief and have a voice stress analyzer present and recorded during the debrief so you can get an idea when these guys think they are truly telling the truth, not sure and when they are blatantly lying. Once you gather the relevant data, the edited/declassified version of the tapes can be released to global news agencies to prove the incident took place. This would need to be part of a well orchestrated information campaign to expose the Chinese.

As a nation, we need to make it clear we recognize Taiwan as nation and the true government of a Greater China. This alone will cause the Chinese leadership to "crap its pants" and begin to give us leverage in regard to the Spratleys. In return Taiwan must recognize our claim to the Spratleys and support our nation more fully in trade and military modernization.

Leaving it to the DFA is tantamount to capitulation...no one in that organization has a "sack" or a "spine". If you don't know what I mean, ask the many OFW's that are routinely abused abroad such as the Middle East and see how much the DFA and OFW orgnaizations support them...

The work being done by the Chinese salvage and exploration ships will also be used against us in any International Court that arbitrates ownership of the Spratleys. There needs to be a strong diplomatic protest (fiery rhetoric will always get press attention) lodged in the UN, even if it is shut down the effort still needs to be made in a public and international forum.
