Perhaps there is one track you can take, but it would be bold and there would definitely be no going back: Officially ally yourselves with the ROC

By doing so you clearly draw a line in the sand re how you feel about the chicoms, while also securing a military and trade alliance that can benefit you in the long run. It is true the U.S. is in a decline due to our economy, but there are strong voices in gov to release military assets (jets/subs) to the ROC that is our obigation by treaty.

I personally feel the U.S. should cut huge deals with the PI as well. However, if that is not feasible, then once we deliver the new F-16s to the ROC, they could then hand over either their F-5s or older F-16s to the PI via a very low cost arrangement.

Yes, its a very big gamble to overtly insult the chicoms by allying yourselves with the ROC, but it should provide many benefits to outweigh their inevitable sanctions against you. Plus, you could switch military/trade agreements from the chicoms over to India...and at least they are a democracy.

I've stated elsewhere on these forums that I feel India is the main candidate to lead the future of a free-democratic Asia, at least equal to the U.S. anyway. They may not state their amibitions as such publicy, but I feel they know its their destiny. At least as much as it is the chicoms anyway.

IMO Japan is in decline and will soon no longer be in a position to be our primary bullwork against the chicoms in the Pacific...plus, their pascifist constitution will never allow them to take the necessary proactive steps anyway. SK has too much to worry about with the NK threat. All the other nations such as Vietnam are either too weak or only interested in their own interests to confront the dragon. It will lay with the PI, ROC and Australia to pick up the slack to confront the chicoms going forward. India can (and should) pick up the slack of the U.S. while we focus on the GWOT and thorny issues around the ME. We simply can no longer afford to cover the entire globe like we once could. Especially with the chicoms holding such a debt over our heads.

Regardless, the U.S. will not abandon our good friends...and the PI is a longtime and very good friend. Yes we are in debt to the chicoms, but we will eventually fix our economy and come out of this bad depression. Unfortunately, by the time we do, the dragon will probably be strong enough and confident enough to attempt more military 'solutions' in that part of the world rather than the economic/diplomatic ones they are using on all of us currently. We may not be able to come riding to the rescue all by ourselves like we once could.

Combine an alliance between the PI, India, ROC, Australia and U.S and we can better fend off the dragon's aggression and drive for regional domination.

A chicom dominated future appears likely, but is still not 100% set in stone. Its up to us free democratic nations to make hard decisions starting now and going forward in order to make sure it doesn't happen. God bless you brothers!

MANILA, Philippines—Defense chief Voltaire Gazmin on Wednesday said that despite the recent surge in alleged incursions of Chinese ships and planes into the Philippine-claimed territories in the disputed Spratly islands in South China Sea, diplomacy will continue to be maintained.
“We have to respond diplomatically to this issue. The most we can do is file diplomatic protests—that is the most civilized thing to do at this moment,” Gazmin said during the Communication and News Exchange Forum at the Philippine Information Agency in Quezon City.
The defense chief, quoting Armed Forces chief of staff General Eduardo Oban Jr., said that they had received five to six reported intrusions this year. Most of them were reportedly committed by Chinese vessels, the latest occurring last May 21 and 24 wherein Filipino fishermen reportedly saw Chinese vessels unloading steel posts near the Likas and Patag islands, some 100 nautical miles off Palawan, well within the Philippine territory.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Can we just sit-down and file protests all the time this thing happened inside our EEZ?  Powerless na tayo?

EH MGA TARANTADA PALA ITONG MGA TAO NA ITO!!!! :headbang:

PARA KAYONG NAGSUSUMBONG SA MAMAMAYANG PILIPINO, EH KAYO DAPAT ANG GUMAGAWA NG SOLUSYON MGA TOLONGGES!

They shouldn't let them enter those areas! I thought those islands are controlled and occupied by us??? They must repel them at all costs regardless of their Capabilities and as a Sworn Soldier to defend the Country and Constitution at any cost!

The minute the Chicoms plant their FLAG and built those structures, the more we will have a hard time kicking them out! as per example to the "Mischief Reef" and worst of all after they installed those structures, plant their FLAG it will be a CHECK MATE for us and they will have their 200ml EEZ from that Area which includes the REED BANK AREA!!!! :headbang:

PLEASE WAKE UP AQUINO GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY, O BAKA NALAGYAN NA RIN KAYO AT BINENTA NIYO NA ANG BAYAN NATIN!!!!

call me crazy for suggesting this. if the Chinese, the Vietnamese are doing it, why should we prevent ourselves from doing the same? if they bolster their respective strongholds on the islands, so must we. if they build structures on erstwhile unoccupied reefs and islets, so must we. if we can't beat them, join them!

The obvious reason why the philippines couldn't do it before because they are afraid to confront them, and there were no serious oil explorations during the early 1990's.

Look, the philippines has just begun developing their oil/fuel pumping infrastructures off Batangas and still in the process of exploring for more oil-rich spots around the spratly. Meanwhile it seems like china is at the pumping of oil stage already, while vietnam is at the developing and converting their islands into world class tourist resorts. And we?

The DFA Office of Asia and Pacific Affairs conveyed to Bai its serious concerns over recent actions of China in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) on May 31 and sought Beijing’s explanation on the incident.

The Chinese embassy said Chinese Ambassador Liu Jianchao was out of the country and would return in a few days.

Flat and West York Island in KIG are Philippine Controlled Islands so why would they let them come close, when if the Philippines does the same thing to Chinese Occupied Islands, for sure they will blow them up to pieces...

After protesting and all, which basically less effective for us but at least a legal step still, then we should do what we have to do and protect our interests and Territories at all cost regardless of our Capability and LET'S SEE HOW THE US, UK, UN and NATO will react and see what their TRUE COLORS ARE????

The Government won't do that: it could easily be destroyed by the others and we'd just be sitting dumbfounded.

Exactly.

i will not be surprised if we will suddenly make "emergency purchases" of weapons and equipment given the further escalating situation in the South China Sea area any time from now.

Yes I believe so... The only way that we can let China know that we're not just going to stand there and watch them take our Islands, same as standing there like Vietnam and let them slaughter us is definitely NOT an option. "Touch me Not"

They've been lying into our FACES even Face to face with our President, while creeping into our Islands at the same time, this is a Direct "SLAP" in the FACE to P.Noy!

We have tried everything to give a peaceful solution to these issues, the only way is to show them that were not push overs! They maybe well equipped Militarily and We all know that we can never win a war with them even after Modernizing our AFP, the Peoples Liberation Armed Forces may be overwhelming in numbers and has Modern Equipments that gives them courage now.. but one thing they FEAR or Hesitate about is the TRUE FILIPINO (Spartan) like WARRIOR SPIRIT that's LOCKED within each and everyone of us just waiting to be unleashed regardless of the outcome...

These CHARADE should end here RIGHT NOW! and WE are just Standing our Ground.. Let's exercise our Rights and Protect and Secure Reed Bank Area and fully secure Flat and West York Islands just like how they done it in "Mischief Reef" at any cost. Either way we are the oppressed party here and the World will side on us for sure. Let's not forget that CHINA has more to loose than us! Their Great Economy now can just go down the drain if they do something more stupid than this... We may loose lives if ever a shooting war with them breaks out, but for sure will bring down some of them with us too.. It's our only option to deter them, to let them know that enough is enough!

Not asking that we go to WAR, but just exercising our RIGHTS and Protecting our Interests, Country and Territories STANDING OUR GROUND. "We are not the once long away from home..."

Spratley Islands for us is given a Contested Islands that can only be solved by a Joint Agreements of all parties involved, but this is far different than to someone forcibly taking what's totally yours (Reed Bank Area) and taking advantage of our present situation.
