CAMP EMILIO F AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines, after thorough deliberation of information, has validated and confirmed today the sighting of two unidentified jet aircraft in the vicinity of the Kalayaan Island Groups (Spratly’s) in the WESTERN PHILIPPINE SEAS (South China Sea) Wednesday. The aircraft was observed by 2 OV-10’s on a routine Maritime Air Patrol Mission in the disputed Islands.

I am very pleased that the AFP addressed SCS to WESTERN PHILIPPINE SEAS (Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas )It is the better name to that area, I once have some disputes with naming names in the other forum where my proposal was doomed by the moderator and other members, the thread died naturally without a good discussion. I ask members of this forum to name it WPS or KDP rather than SCS since we have sovereign claims to some of KIG (Spratly Island).I am also in the process of mailing our legislators to revised popular International names of KIG and SCS to Philippine name so that our young students will be in better knowledge and start to install nationalism in their mind.

Address Spratly Island to KALAYAAN ISLANDS, South China Sea to WESTERN PHILIPPINE SEA or Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas.

You are right about this idea! :thumb:

This is the best way to solve the problems in Sparatley's! :thumb:

For as long as they won't include the Reed Bank area which is really part of our Country separated from KIG. :salute:

AVB,

but unfortunately its not , unless China drop the China has INDISPUTABLE sovereignty over the Spratly and its adjacent waters (SCS), they claim its their lake, nobody knows what will happen thats why experts say its a potential flashpoint , We must be ready for all the consequences because of energy requirements and the collapse of the world economy.

They're just trying to push their luck on the claim over the Reed Bank area it is clearly inside our EEZ and separated away from KIG.

I think the Philippines won't think twice in going to War over the Reed Bank, regardless if our Military Forces are ill equipped and this is the Main Reason for the MALAMPAYA's Initial P 8B. FUNDS for Military upgrades. :salute:

Its the RP government who suspend the seismic survey/exploration program, so it's our loss not the chinese. I wouldnt be happy for this, this is like submitting to bullies, not a very good idea actually.

Palace: Reed Bank not subject to negotiation

The Philippine Star Updated May 23, 2011 01:13 PM

Quote:

MANILA, Philippines – The Palace clarified today that the Reed Bank area is not part of the disputed territories in the Kalayaan Group of Islands, often referred as Spratly Islands, as it is within the territorial boundaries of the Philippines.

In a statement issued early today, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda pointed out that Reed Bank is not part of the disputed Spratlys but to the Western Palawan section.

“It has always been an integral part of our national territory, and not subject to negotiation,” Lacierda pointed out.

The Palace issued the statement after reports came out that the government has suspended the conduct of seismic undertakings in Reed Bank, pending resolutions from among the claimants of the area, including Vietnam and the People’s Republic of China.

The Palace official noted that the Philippine’s recent action was aimed at advocating multilateral approach in settling disputes in the region.

“The cornerstone of President Benigno Aquino III's foreign policy is our aspiration to be a reliable member of the community of nations, a nation serious about its commitments and which harmonizes its national interests with its international responsibilities,” he added.

He noted that the Philippines has repeatedly and consistently asked concerned nations to observe and uphold the Code of Conduct on the South China Sea, which is the country’s contribution in making the conflict zones as an “area of cooperation”.

Under the Aquino administration, he said the Department of Energy wanted to thoroughly review any propose undertaking in the area to ensure that it will adhere to the Philippine’s “preferred mode for resolving the existing claims in the areas.”

Lacierda also noted that Aquino would discuss the issue with China’s defense minister Liang Guanglie, who is scheduled to pay a visit to the President today.

“The President looks forward to amicable and thorough discussion on points of mutual interest,” he said, while pointing out that the government will minimize issues that will further raise tension and disagreement on the matter.

“The Philippines considers China a partner in achieving prosperity for the region and we are keen to explore areas for commercial cooperation in a spirit of mutual respect and sovereign dignity,” Lacierda added.

Meanwhile, Chinese and Philippine defense chiefs warned rival claimants today to avoid unilateral action and focus on responsible behavior in disputed South China Sea islands.

Liang and his Philippine counterpart, Voltaire Gazmin, acknowledged in a joint statement the need to ensure that the South China Sea remains stable and called for “responsible behavior” while claimant nations seek a peaceful solution.

Liang's four-day visit comes amid renewed tensions in the disputed Spratly Islands, which are contested by China, the Philippines and four other nations.

“Unilateral actions which could cause alarm should be avoided,” the defense ministers said in the statement.

Gazmin said they discussed the May 11 sighting of two unidentified foreign fighter jets near an island occupied by Filipino troops that drew Philippine government concerns. Two Philippine patrol planes failed to identify the jets, which were at a higher altitude but made no hostile moves.

Liang, according to Gazmin, mentioned that Philippine media accounts identified the two aircraft as Russian-made MIG fighter jets and clarified that China has no MIG planes in its air force.

The discussions did not touch on a March 2 incident in which the Philippine government accused two Chinese patrol boats of harassing a Filipino oil exploration ship into leaving a vast area called the Reed Bank.

Gazmin said he and Liang agreed that any conflict "should be settled amicably by opening the lines of communication, dialogues and sitting down and talking to each other."

Best way to do is to do a partnership with British or US Private Co. to do REED Bank exploration backed by their Government as long as the Philippine Government invests and gets a bigger share as well... Recent foreign Co. was British I think...

UK calls for peaceful resolution of Spratly dispute

By Pia Lee-Brago (The Philippine Star) Updated May 24, 2011 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The United Kingdom called yesterday for a peaceful resolution of overlapping territorial claims in the South China Sea, in accordance with a United Nations convention that sets maritime economic zones for each country.

“It’s an important issue not just for the region,” said Peter Wilson, director for Asia-Pacific of the UK Foreign and Commonwelath Office. “The rest of the world is looking very closely at this.”

Wilson, who headed the British delegation to the 2nd Philippines-United Kingdom High Level Meeting yesterday, told The STAR that his government wanted sea lanes to be used freely.

He said countries around the South China Sea should be able to “sensitively take advantage of opportunities there.”

“We have shared interests in seeing that any dispute in the South China Sea is resolved peacefully and in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS),” Wilson told The STAR after the meeting.

The UNCLOS sets a 200-mile maritime exclusive economic zone for each country. China is claiming the South China Sea as part of its territory. Five other countries including the Philippines are claiming parts of the Spratly Islands that dot the sea.

The Spratly dispute was part of the agenda at yesterday’s meeting, held in Manila with the Philippine delegation headed by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Erlinda Basilio.

In another development, Basilio said after the meeting that the government was optimistic British companies would invest in rail projects in the Philippines.

Basilio said government officials had met with representatives of British firms and discussed opportunities under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) program of the Aquino administration.

“We hope the British investors will take a look at the transportation sector. There have been initial meetings with British rail companies and we hope that they will come and look at other projects as well so that we will be able to have again an active engagement,” Basilio said at a press conference after the meeting with Wilson’s delegation.
