Talk is cheap, Mr. President. Unless you actually provide the country's armed forces with the capability to back your words, your words will fall on deaf ears.

Less blathering, more action please.

President Aquino stressed that Reed Bank located west of Palawan near the Spratlys belongs to the Philippines and that a decision to dispatch Philippine Coast Guard vessels in the area in March was meant to protect the country’s sovereignty.

“Yung atin pong isla na ang tawag ay Reed Bank, 80 kilometers from Palawan—sa UNCLOS po may tinawag na exclusive economic zone na 200 kilometers. Maliwanag po, saklaw natin at atin po itong Reed Bank na ito. Yan po ay nasa may Spratlys,” Aquino said in an adlib during his speech at the 112th anniversary of the Commission on Audit to drive home the point that reforms are underway to rehabilitate the government’s limited resources.

Aquino related an incident in March that when another country sent two of its coast guard vessels to drive away a Philippine vessel that is exploring oil and natural gas in the area, the Philippine Coast Guard dispatched two vessels to secure the Philippine vessel and allowed it to continue its project. But only Philippine Coast Guard vessel made it to the site. Aquino said the country must protect its sovereignty.

Yan ho ang binabago natin,” Aquino said.

"Problema ho kasi, napakaluma na ng sasakyang pandagat. At ang Coast Guard natin nagtitiis; yung taumbayan, sabi nga, wala na hong justice, just tiis. Yan ho ang binabago natin,” Aquino said.

SO WHAT NOW MR.PNoY? ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT OR JUST MORE PRESS RELEASES...?

:dunno: Which Pagbabago? Mr.PNoy? Ex USCGC Hamilton (WHEC-715)commissioned March 18, 1967. You can do better than this Sir, your biggest mistake was, not giving PRIORITY on the acquisition of the MRV Project which was halfway funded already.....

The MRV should have been the FIRST Sign of a Real CHANGE in the System and more deserving to be the PN's Flagship.

An Acquisition of the MRV combined with the Hamilton WHEC-715 would have been a much better move for the President.

It's not too late for P.Noy to change his mind and give priority to the MRV Project for the sake of our Soldiers and the Filipino People, after all they need to see something very positive from the present Government that there is a New LIFE after the "PABAON Scandal" in the AFP. :salute:

I think that those press releases are useful. It gives awareness to the public the stagnant state of our armed forces so that the gov't can garner public support to the modernization of the AFP, and not to see the public rallying again, shouting divert military funds to education. We must also know that their are lot of pressures the gov't are receiving from the investors of Malampaya to establish a good and credible security to it.

We may say for now that the Hamilton is only an over-sized gunboat. But if you take a good look to it you'll see that this ship has a lot of potential and have lots of room for modernization. Give the Navy 3 more years and we will surely see the installation of the needed weapon systems to it.

I hope that the Navy will achieve their target by 2020, may 8 1/2 years pa naman. :salute:

I think we can't buy modern/brand new ships like submarines, aircraft carriers, and the likes even if we have the budget.

Reason is, they are nuclear powered. :) if only the nuclear plant is being utilized...grrr....

Modernization of one's military capabilities inherently enables a country to defend its territories and project a viable and capable force deterent from being bullies such as China or neighbors. Anything less than that will preclude a country from obtaining long term economic and industrial strength. Philippines has the ideal warriors and ethos required to fight the fight. However without proper equipment, state of the art technology it will all be for not should they engage an enemy such as China with its horde of savages....Thanks to it's corrupt Generals and Politicians they have been reduced and perceived by the world as being mere traffic cops with at most a stop sign as one could rightly put it....Th poor state of readiness due to outdated armaments, weapons, tactics and communications has severely eroded esprit de corps, nationalism, and above all motivation and love for country...all due to inadequate pay levels and cronyism.....If a soldier determines that his country is ill equiping him and paying him substandard wages, will it affect his temperment and loyalty to country or to his immediate family and surroundings. I have heard one officer say that he would not risk his all for a Flag because his family needs him more. Enough said, a house cleaning and reorganization is severely needed....

The US also has finally realized that we can win any fight with anyone but we can't sustain a war especially a two front one for a period of 5-10 years. The books are being written now on Counter-Insurgency Operations, Force Projection and How To Fight the rapidly and ever changing spectrum and dimensions of War to include Operations Other than War (OOTW). So there you have it....Even the US is learning that being the king of the hill can only be on a timeline.

Thats probably why the Spratlys have been put on the back burner for so long due to the country's inability to send a strong message to anyone to " Hands off" their claims to the islands. So for the time being it will just be words and feints bluffs. But those are just my opinions.

You are getting to a lot of nerves here mr. avsupersonic.. you should tone down your comments because it is not doing any help.. constructive criticism is different from criticizing for the sake of getting attention and venting out anger and emotions.. Why blame Pnoy for the misfortunes of the AFP.. In fact it is only now that true modernization is being implemented.. why dont you vent out your anger to Gloria and her cohorts in the military.. It was during those nine years that we loss any semblance of external deterrence.. she chose to decommssioned our remaining F-5s without any viable replacement.. Geez give this administration a break and let them do their job.. the reason everyone is excited and enthusiastic is finally we can see a bright future for our armed forces to finally bring it back to where it use to. The BRP Gregorio del Pilar is the start and we are all looking forward in the next five years.. Pnoy might be our only chance to see a modern and capable armed forces so lets just support him ok? Cool ka lang, ok?

Dapat nga tayong matuwa ngayon dahil may ambisyon ang current administration hindi tulad nung nakaraan na puro kick-back, pabaon at office supplies ang inatupag.

I didn't vote for PNoy, but I certainly believe that he will make a difference. The president himself is a wannabe-military and he even visited the USS Carl Vinson. I'm sure that he heard some of the marketing skills of the Americans while aboard that carrier.

The modernization of the AFP is one of his priorities. So we must support him when it comes to this issue.

thats the problem of having a female president. with due respect to late pres coy aquino, but female presidents don't look at defense as a priority except maybe senator santiago who likes guns. lol.
