US govt to train PHL forces in energy exploration security

Filipino naval forces assigned to secure oil and gas exploration activities are set to undergo training from the US government, according to the Energy Department.

The Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of National Defense (DND) will be buying military equipment from the US within a three-year period in exchange for the training services.

The P8 billion from the government's Malampaya royalties will be used to fund exploration projects in far areas within Philippine waters, Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras said Tuesday.

Around P150 million from the budget will be used for the training program.

Interesting. First indication of US involvement specific to the Spratlys, we will read more of this especially if the exploration companies are mostly American.

Meaning... We will be buying more Old / soon to be decommissioned (bulok) assets from the US junk yard inventory?

If the national government earns more than $100 million in monthly royalties from the Malampaya deep water gas-to-power project in Northwest Palawan, then we are able to acquire better assets and equipments from them or other sources... "We are not Beggar's anymore but can choose what, which, where to acquire?"
Why don't or can't they throw in a (Squadron) F16's like the Indonesia Grant Deal to us, that will solve problems of our PAF???

"parang nagpa uto na naman tayo?" unless this comes with an "INVISIBLE UMBRELLA" :dunno:

All these interesting things that are developing regarding this projects made me think of what a friend of mine told me before, who has a British friend who works as an Engineer in one of the Companies involved in oil explorations around the Philippines.

A kind of theory that the biggest oil deposits and expensive fossil fuels are believe to be found here in South east Asia starting from a tail in Malaysia, which they are exploring now and the biggest body passing through the whole Philippines from Sulu, including KIG & nearby areas.Reed T., Malampaya which is now under exploration all the way to Hawaii... But the problem with the US side is that they are very deep, unlike ours (Philippines areas) that are shallow and can be easily explored...

If this is it then, the Philippine Government should raise it stakes, learn how to play the cards right Intelligently and invest more!!!

I think it's time for the Philippines to SHINE! :patrioticpinoy:

lol... I agree with you pare 200%, sanamagan, Im tired of reading, learning that our AFP are still the junkyard for the US armed forces and yet we have to pay for these junks, what a stupid scenarios and deals. When are our generals and politikos stop being idiots and stupids. no wonder wala tayong asenso. sanamagan. even a people power victory did not solved these problems. we need a real change not a fake change like the people power is a phony revolution.

As what the more knowledgeable posters here said, the Hamilton is a good enough patrol vessel and at the same time an excellent training ship for the new build corvettes/frigates that are to come.

Possible return of US forces to Subic

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadl...-Subic-possible

I think we should agree only if the US categorically accepts that the KIG is part of PH territory.

what do you think gentlemen? :ssalute:
