Remember that the PN and PAF only have $ 184,098,484.94 Million. USD budget for this Palawan, near Spratley Security project to spend on Navy vessels, and Air Force assets like long-range patrol aircraft, and air defense radar, among others.

Back to the Gumdoksuri then! Any suggestions on what aircraft or missiles that can be fitted on our current aircraft can we buy?

Cyclone patrol craft-

General characteristics
Displacement: 331 tons (336 metric tons) full load
Length: 179 ft (55 m)
Beam: 25 ft (7.6 m)
Propulsion: Four Paxman diesels; four shafts; 3,350 shaft horsepower (2.50 MW)
Speed: 35 knots (40 mph; 65 km/h)
Endurance: 2000-2500nm (@12knots, with transit fuel reserve)
Crew: Four officers, 24 enlisted personnel
Armament: 2 × MK 38 25 mm autocannon
5 × .50 caliber machine guns
2 × MK 19 40 mm automatic grenade launchers
2 × M240B machine guns
$ 31 million
AFAIK we have one named Mariano Alvarez or something
:thumb:

If the type of missile is the question, I don't know. Any missile that can fit will do. I'm not really an expert on missiles :armycool:

Much better to acquire newer assets than the "US Cyclone" and we don't want to be limited, we should have the freedom to buy and get what we want....? better not US!

I agree, we should buy more ships outside the US. And besides I just found out that the average lifespan of one is just approximately 15 yrs. so... :nono:

If you think about it.... The Gumdoksuri doesn't have ASW Capability but has Missiles, but made me think about what happened to "Cheonan Sinking" of SOKORS....?!!! WE DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN TO OUR PN!!!!

Considering CHICOMS and others have lots of SuBS!!! No chance of us knowing who did it?????

BETTER with ASW Capability!

Knud Rasmussen! x2 will be a big step forward LET'S HOPE THEY WILL CONSIDER Something like this!!!

Bigger and Better escort for future MRV!!! :thumb:

I can smell "SEMI BLUE WATER" in the Horizon!!! :patrioticpinoy:

Maybe we could buy some dedicated ASW corvettes(or better yet, frigates) through the modernization fund itself since were more concerned about chinese boats harassing EVERY-FREAKING-BODY  IMHO we should buy more fast crafts with at least some anti ship capabilities.:ssalute:

And besides, the ChiComs maybe A-holes but they arent as crazy as the NOKORS :armycheers:

If they are crazy enough to bully us and occupy Mischief Reef Island in kalayaan and "Bully us within our EEZ territory, and don't forget how they massacred unarmed Vietnamese Sailors re; Spratley issues! Not crazy to you????

This is separate program of P.Noy to safeguard our interests in Palawan area and to increase our PN's Capabilities in Protecting our Investments and Areas of responsivility, it's different from the AFP Modernization Program I believe......

wow...8 billion

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/03/28/11...e-near-spratlys

MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has ordered stronger military presence in Palawan, near the disputed Spratly Islands, by allocating P8 billion for the acquisition of naval and air assets.

Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Eduardo Oban told reporters they are now preparing a list of equipment needed, which would include Navy vessels, and Air Force assets like long-range patrol aircraft, and air defense radar, among others.

Oban said the P8 billion is "for the initial development of our capability to have more presence in Palawan…That's why we are pushing for capability development so we can really safeguard our interest, particularly [in the area]."

The oil- and marine-rich Spratly Islands, located west of Palawan, is being claimed in part or in whole by the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Brunei and Vietnam.

"Perhaps the President saw our long-standing needs in terms of capability in the area," said Oban.

Asked if it had something to do with previous incidents there, Oban said: "Our mandate is we have to protect our interest in the area.”

I smell something different about this issue...... :armyhuh:

Why this urgent? and not through the AFP Modernization program?

The unsuccessful negotiations for Filipinos on Death Row in China, Harassment of PH Survey ship in Reed Bank, China's warning re; on oil explorations of our Government, If my I Source is right..... This is preparing and responding to a possible future threat! of course they will never Divulge anything like this in the media... It will create caos! :nono: :salute:

Like I said, not as crazy as NoKors. I have neither seen nor heard news yet of the chinks bombing a Philippine jet liner, or trying to assassinate the president or blowing up a Philippine ship.

China has changed, they know everybody feels threatened by them and they want to play down those fears. Especially now when the US is getting more and more paranoid about the Chinese threat and India is fast becoming a key player in the Asian region. They want to give an impression of being a peaceful country (not working here) while still maintaining their image of having a powerful military. Hence, the harassment of our research ship and the fortifications on their islands. They wouldn't be stupid enough to initiate an act of war, even against us, because all hell will break loose AFAIK.

That's why IMO we need more fast crafts and OPVs rather than subs and big ships from those 8 billion pesos alloted to the Spratly's. Still does not make me approve of the Hamilton though. :thumb:

I'm for the. "Knud Rasmussen"( x 1) and Gumdoksuri (PKG-B) (x 2) for the PN! It's time for us to acquire ships with Missile and ASW Capability.

Just imagine how it looks.... (1) Knud Rasmussen and (2) Gumdoksuri PKG-B escorting our MRV! :specool:

On the other hand it would be a bit odd to use a $50M USD Knud Rasmussen to escort a $37.5M USD Makassar class landing platform dock (MRV)..... :dunno:
